Is it wrong to forbid your kids to listen to that garbage? I say no. I would never allow that garbage in my house. I feel as a parent it is our duty to keep real music alive. We have a 12 YO who goes to rock concerts with us and sings along every word. The old farts like us will turn around and look at him in amazment. He just looks up and shouts RAP SUCKS !!
Dont give us that "our parents said the same thing to us" crap. Turns out rock became the greatest music ever so we were right.
as a 50 year old guy, I absolutely loathe rap. It almost makes me homocidal it irritates me so much. However, times do change and so does everything with it, including musical tastes. I wouldn't care if my kid listened to rap as long as I didn't have to hear it. Moreover, if you forbid kids from listening to something it becomes the forbidden fruit and thus more attractive to them.
I am a major metalhead (especially the neoclassical stuff). However, I also listen to everything from classical to folk to jazz to country all the way up to some thrash (except for rap and alternative). After metal, blues is probably the genre I love the most.
What is usually called "World Music," I guess - although within that category there are many genres. Some of what I like: Brazilian - forró, MPB, choro, bossa and samba; Cabo Verde - vocal music, mainly the mournas, though I like the group Cabo Verde Show; Arab pop; George Dalaras - Greek; Portuguese fado and current vocal.
Oh no Latin music? I like bachata, latin jazz, and reggaeton (some reggaeton). Yeah classic rock is good. I like alternative rock from the 90's through the early 2000's. Rock music these days is getting on my nerves! I cant stand pop, metal or hip hop.
