Thumbs up Wolfman Jack my favorite D.J. Who would you pick?

Most people remember this very talented, special man. Many DJ's have been overlooked. Who did you like?

I honestly can't remember anyone I would call a "good" DJ. WJ was before my time. When I was growing up all the DJs had to bow down to the PD who told them what to say and play. There was a DJ on XM Channel 7 a while back, I think his last name was Ocean. He used to make really bad jokes that cracked me up.

I would pick Tom "Big Daddy" Donahue ....

He "invented" FM rock radio ...at radio station KMPX in 1967
San Francisco,CA

Anyone remember him ? ....he was a big guy with really deep voice

In the Joe Cocker documentary "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" (1970)
Cocker is interviewed by Tom on air

I guess it all depends on where you grew up as a kid. I would go along with CTHD on Wolfman Jack. His show was syndicated in my area for a time and I LOVED listening to him. I know some collector friends back east who swore by Murray the "K". There was also a guy in Pittsburgh who was popular with the doo wop and r and b crowd by the name of Jerry "Porky" Chadwick. Another east coast 50's and 60's guy I hear people talk about is Jerry Blavatt, can't recall where he was based out of. Still enjoy Casey Kasem, and of course Dick Clark's Rock, Roll, and Remember program.

How can we answer this since we all have different DJs all over the states? We can answer based on nationally syndicated shows. And Wolfman Jack and Casey Kasem are the only ones I can think of.

Most syndicated DJs are from and broadcast from NY. Which is the state next to where I grew up. I can remember a couple more who became famous by broadcasting some sunday show or other type of show all over America from NY. Anyone remember the great Scott Muni? I think the 8 pack a day smoking habbit finally took him too early a few years ago. He was nicknamed "The professor" because on his shows no one ever stumped him with a rock and roll trivia question. And another would be Alison Steel the Nightbird. A couple more good ones ended up getting bored with being a DJ and went into traffic reporting such as Donna Fuducia for example.

How about Jane Dornacker who went into traffic reporting and one day on October 22, 1986 while she was reporting her chopper lost power and as she was going down into the Hudson River and knew she was about to die she continued to report. She was also lead singer of the rock band "The Tubes" I believe. Maybe it was keyboardest...dont remember.

And as for a VJ who can not remember Down Town Judy Brown? That was the days when MTV actually played music.

I really liked Dick Clark on ''American Bandstand'' and also Don Cornelius of ''Soul Train'' as these shows jammed in the 70's/80's on tv.

Wolfman Jack is probably my all time favorite from when I was in HS. Another that was pretty funny was the "Grease Man" (I think) on I believe WWDC in Washington DC. I listed to his show in the late '80s when I lived in Montgomery County Maryland..
