Default Elders in Rock Music

The oldest I know of is Ed Cassidy, the drummer in the 60's band Spirit. He is still alive and is 85, born May 4, 1923, in Chicago, IL. He's the guy with the shaved head. Spectacular, versatile musician...playing way before when his future bandmates were in diapers.

He was the stepfather to the lead guitarist of Spirit, Randy California.

It is gonna be real hard to come up with anyone who would be older than "Cass". Spirit's first LP came out in September of '68 and it was a GREAT debut release! Fresh Garbage, Topanga Windows, Uncle Jack, and the 10 minute Elijah!

This won't count - or will it? But Les Paul can play pretty much whatever he sets his mind to. This was done when he was 91 or 2.

85? Holy crap! And to think I was going to say "I can't believe Tom Araya is nearly 50!"
