OH MAN, I remember the day he died. I was at work, I happened to work for a retail company with a string of stores across the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. Each and every store manager was in tears over it. They even had a wake type party that night where they got drunk and listened to his music.
Stevie Ray was AMAZING... he's my favorite guitarist ever. Every time I hear his music it sucks me in. There are really great musicians that have a signature way of playing that's really hard to replicate and he's one of them. When he played he just put so much of himself into it... maybe that's why he sounds so good.
If you like SRV, you might like Los Lonely Boys, their guitar sounds much like Stevie, they are of course not Stevie but they are another Texas band with some good sound. More Spanish influence also then Stevie had. Awesome group though.
I wish I was that lucky, I was only 6 when he died.
