That is EXACTLY why I hate the John Lennon "So this is Christmas" song...along with the fact that it's the most depressing Christmas song ever.

I'm afraid I'll have to agree with you on this one. What a downer.

Well, I like the "War Is Over If You Want It" part of Lennon's song.

I actually like just about all Christmas music, no matter how cheesy or lame, and that includes Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer and the barking dogs doing Jingle Bells. Now I don't listen to that stuff night and day, but once or thrice a year is fine.

The Christmas Shoes is pretty bad, though.

You got that right ZonyPony. John Lennon's Xmas song is my very favourite.

Funny, but we put on a satelite Xmas radio/music station last night, and couldn't get through the song they were singing to listen to anything else. Switched to an instrumental xmas station, and that lasted about one song more, and then on went Hendricks ..

Has anyone heard Victoria Silvstedt's version of Santa Baby? Upchuck galore!

Hate? Nah. But I really dislike it. Snooty, snide, and self-righteous hypocritical preaching. Not Lennon's finest moment.

'Course I really do hate "Imagine." For all the above reasons. Blech.

That's one of my faves...so is Drummer Boy (the original version.)

I was in Wal-Mart today and I couldn't help but feel sorry for the employees having to listen to that stuff ALL day long. Not only that, but "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" came on by one singer, then 20 minutes later the same tune came on being sung by someone else...OVERKILL!

My LF's:

" Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer"-silly and annoying ditty.
" We Three Kings"-kinda slow and uninspiring song.
" 12 Days Of Christmas"-goes on and on and on...
" Santa Baby"-by Madonna-the cutsie way she sings it is annoying.
" Jingle Bells"-tired of hearing it.
" Baby It's Cold Outside"
" Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree"-I was told it was Wayne Newton (as a kid) singing-only found out a few years ago it was Brenda Lee.

See, now "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" is the one Xmas song that I don't hear enough of. I think because it is a beautiful little melancholy counterpoint to all the happy happy jingle jingle saccharine crap. Any song that has a lyric as great as "We'll have to muddle through somehow," deserves to be celebrated, particularly in a time of mindless consumerism and glee.

Does anyone else remember the silly children's version of this? We sung it on the bus a lot. It goes like this:

We 3 kings of the USSR
tried to smoke a rubber cigar,
but it was loaded and exploded ...

We 2 kings of the USSR
tried to smoke a rubber cigar,
but it was loaded and exploded ...

I the king of the USSR
tried to smoke a rubber cigar,
but it was loaded and exploded ...

No more kings of the USSR

My Russian friends, who grew up in the USSR, got a hoot out of that one when I translated it. I'm sure they had never heard the song on which it was based.
