To me some of my favorite songs are actually my favorite, not because of the singing, but because of the actual music. Sometimes the music just totally sets the mood, and makes the song what it is. One of my favorite songs of all time is a perfect example. The sliding guitar rifts really add to the mysterious mood this song sets.

I like the music of Dylan's Hurricane Carter. Weird, not my usual stuff but I like that.

Radiohead's "All I Need" puts me in some comfy sort of dreamy space (it's the simple piano and strings in the bridge that crescendos the best! for sure!)

Great thread idea!

I'll go with this one for now. JJ's piano and that stepped up bass riff lend such a great dress-up feel to it.

Joe Jackson - Steppin' Out

YouTube - Suite Judy Blue Eyes (Woodstock)

Guitar only is what gets me, not to mention great poignant lyric!

Many times, it simply depends on the song. Words sometimes do it, but other times, I get captivated by a melody or an arrangement.

The music is definitely what would make this:

Greatness. This version is the best.

Now that is a great great great song. A true story depicted perfectly by Gordon Lightfoot. 29 people died that day on Nov 9 1975. Its on my list of things to do in life to see the memorial in Paradise, Michagan. It took 20 years to find and recover the many valuble parts of the Edmond to display in the local mariners museum. Every year to this very day the local church rings the bell 29 times to remember each of the 29 crewmen who lost their lives.
