Oddly enough, I was never a fan of the song when it was popular (couldn't figure out what the heck it was all about and why they were singing about douches anyway!). Once I saw the lyrics and what the song was about I don't mind it and find it kind of fascinating...but I am am often in awe of Springsteen's way with lyrics anyway....

Gavin Edwards is the author of several books of misheard song lyrics. One was mentioned earlier.... "'Scuse Me While I Kiss This Guy." These make great gifts for any of your music loving friends. I've bought" 'Scuse Me While I Kiss This Guy" , "When A Man Loves A Walnut" and "He's Got the Whole World In His Pants."
Once you read these books, you'll start singing the WRONG lyrics just to LOL along with the song.

'The correct lyric from Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze is 'scuse me while I kiss the sky'. Actually, even after knowing the authorised version of the lyric, it still sounds to me that Hendrix is singing 'kiss this guy'. '

Credence Clear Water Revival. "There's a bad moon out tonight." There's a bathroom on the right makes more sense to me!

This one goes way back, because I do. The old song "Mother-in-law". My friend (13) and I both would sing along to and couldn't quite come up with the wording. It came out .....Hillary Long! Later same friend it was the Doors "Light My Fire" Come on baby let's perspire.....which was probably true also.

'One-Eyed, Flying Purple People Eater'
Somehow I stuggled with Alan Sherman's 'Camp Granada'--almost certain that has been mentioned.
'Teen Angel'--took a while to get that one straightened out. Since there was generally 'No Talking' at lunch--I'm afraid there were a few notes passed in class about lyrics.

"Walking the Dog" by Rufus Thomas. The lyrics sound like an innocent tune about a woman having a bad day, and I think many, many people over the decades had no clue that this is actually a song about a woman addicted to heroin.
"How low, tippie-toe. . . broke her needle, now she can't sew. . .walking her dog"
I'm sure that the hard-drug users of that time understood the terms and words, and after finally learning the scoop almost 40 years later it makes me laugh even more. Still love the song.
