I dont like the death metal stuff (although there are some good guitar riffs) but I can do Metallica, Rage, Tool and some others.

Depends on what you consider heavy rock.

Check out Yngwie Malmsteen. Or Eric Johnson.

Yes, heavy metal is garbage. With the exception of a few post-metal bands (Isis, Jesu, Pelican, Neurosis, etc...) I can't stand it. Especially nu-metal which is right up there with pop-punk and butt rock as the worst of the worst.

If you think heavy metal is garbage then you just insulted all of those oh-so-hip metal bands that you listed (who I also happen to like). Guess what: those guys are metalheads.
Anyway, totally agree with you on the nu-metal. It caused my first old-geezer moment. I simply couldn't believe that kids were respecting that as music, let alone metal...

To the OP: No, absolutely not. Some of my favorite music is "heavy" rock music.

Anything that comes out of Kanye West's mouth is nothing but garbled noise.

While not one of my favorite bands, Korn was pretty innovative. Sadly, like most truely original bands they spawned dozens of terrible knock off acts (Limp Bisquit stands out in the forefront) that thought all they needed to do to have a hit with the "Nu Metal" style is go JUHJUHJUHJUHJUHJUHJUHJUHJUHJU WHEEEE!!!!!!! JUJUJUJUJU WEEEEEEEEE!!!! on a seven string guitar while some "singer" whines about his mommy.

WindowsEtc is on a distinguished road
I like all kids of music, but heavy metal most of all. Music is all a matter of taste. Some people like certain bands or styles or genres and others don't, but I don't feel the need to put down someone else's taste in music. I just listen to what I like and go on.
