I am in water...I am underwater, swimming toward the surface. It is dark, but the water is warm...no menace. Surface is near, plenty of oxygen...like motherly home. I hear a noise ... it's coming from above. Is it a bell...a buoy?
One long stroke reunites me with the balmy atmosphere above...briefly wonder why I am treading water in the sea in the middle of the night...
The noise...from where? An alarm? Oh, ohhh, it's the phone. One hand slaps the nightstand while the other rubs sleep from eyes... Hel...clear throat...(quietly) tentatively, hello?
Mom? yes...Yes! what..where are you...are you OK? sitting straight up now...wide awake...heart hammering...
I have been away for awhile, traveling on business, so I haven't kept up on this thread. The ol' Jazzlover's contribution tonight is a personal one. Recently, I attended a memorial for a good friend felled in the prime of life by heart disease. This tune was played at the service, and it had us all in tears. It is James Taylor's "Secret O' Life", performed here by the late, marvelous Nancy LaMott. It is all the more poignant because Ms. LaMott herself had been diagnosed with terminal cancer shortly before this album was recorded. Great tune, great singer--it says so much.
Natalayjones,
I hope you accept my apology for not showing up the other night....if you kept the wine maybe we can try are little rendevous again?
LOL & welcome. I don't know I was really hurt when you stood me up; I was up all night crying. I tried to call Apry but she was out with her boyfriend screaming at MJ and didn't have time to soothe me. So I spent the night here alone, sitting on my sofa staring at the moon and feeling...
