Interesting that everyone is picking rock musicians. I'll add a little twist. Drums: John Bonham and don't forget Buddy Rich. Guitar: Clapton, really like Carlos Santana, Prince (don't care for his music) but think he's a top player and away from rock Andres Segovia who was truely brilliant. Bass: Stefan Lessard and finally vocals: it depends on the music. There are many rock vocalists that can sing but as far a the best voices as a whole I'd say Sinatra, Crosby, really like Nat King Cole. All in all I think you can add dozens more depending on what type of music you want to rate. Luciano Pavarotti can obviously sing Capuleti e i Montecchi but I'd like to hear him try some Led Zeppelin "Whole Lotta Love".
Hard to pick a true "best," but here are the greats:
Lead Singers
Roger Daltrey of the Who
Freddie Mercury of Queen
Sting of the Police
Lead Guitar
Pete Townshend of the Who
Jimi Hendrix
Andy Summers of the Police
Greg Allman of the Allman Brothers
Bass
John Entwistle of the Who
Sting of the Police
Jack Bruce
Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers (I confess I don't really care for the Chili Peppers' music, but Flea is a phenomal bassist)
Drummer
Keith Moon of the Who
Stewart Copeland of the Police
In terms of sheer musicianship, you'd be hard pressed to find more impressive rock bands than the Who and the Police.
[quote=citybythebay;473429]*Lead Singer~ Steve Perry/ Journey
*Guitarist~ Al DiMeola...simply AMAZING! & Stevie Ray Vaughan
saw Al,it was great, never saw SRV live but he's a favorite too.
you know there is no best
only personal favorites.
citybythebay,Im starting like you even more and more, good taste in guitar players.Id sing a Jjourney song for you but you'd cringe lol!!!!I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, though Im pretty good a primal sounding screams for backup vocals.
Male Singer: Roy Orbison and Smokey Robinson clearly had the gifted voices, but I'm more into the Lou Reed style of delivery.
Female Singer: Aretha, back in the olden days, simply had no peers but give me Linda Ronstadt any old time. She could sing anything.
Guitar: Pete Townshend once said he wished he could play like Todd Rundgren, and I love Todd's music, but seeing how Jimmy Page hasn't been mentioned: Him
Bass: A tie between Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy and Paul McCartney.
Drums: Place **** Fleetwood on that list of fabulous timekeepers
Uh, that's M*i*c*k Fleetwood. wtf?
