Overall, I like East Coast rap better. But it also depends on the time period. In the early-to-mid 90's, the West Coast dominated with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, and 2Pac. In the late 90's/early 00's, East Coast rap took the scene with P. Diddy, Jay-Z, DMX, Ja Rule, etc. Also in the late 90's was the rise of Southern rap with mainly New Orleans based artists produced by No Limit, while Atlanta had Outkast and Ludacris. In the mid-2000's, the ATL really got put on the map with crunk music (Lil' Jon), and into the late 00's with artists like T-Pain and Soulja Boy. West Coast rap is starting to make a comeback with The Game and Dr. Dre's highly anticipated and delayed album. Also, the Midwest have always had good artists like Bone, Twista, Eminem, Kanye West, and Common.

Snoop is making an album soon and don't forget about Nipsey Hussle. That guy is FIYAAA!!! He's bringing back the old G-funk but updated and he's got lyrics.

Well I wouldn't call it the most important. Atlanta, Miami (who was the first city in the South to come out with any type of hip hop music), and New Orleans is just as important.
But don't tell the Memphians that Atlanta started crunk? They'd have a fit considering Memphis was the ones that started that a decade before Atlanta started to do it. But the South has been around longer than the mid-90s. The Geto Boyz are from Houston and they had a huge hit in 1991.
Hold up hold up the bold places are dirty south. A different animal compared to east coast rap.
In Va its a mix. Probably leaned more East coast back in the 90's. Virginia produced mainstream artists like the Clipse, Skillz (formerly known as Mad Skillz), Supafriendz, Missy Elliott and Magoo.
Producers in Va such as the Neptunes, Timbaland and Teddy Riley helped to create music for artists from all over.

Houston/New Orleans is what put the south on the map though.
WOW,you couldn't be more wrong. That's what I said about the underground scene, you haven't heard of people so you assume, while wu-tang,jay-z,nas,d-block are all known nation wide.
The vids I posted on the first place are a mixture of groups from all over California, automatically proving you wrong.
Okay... Underground hip hop influences are all over the East coast as well, just because there is a lot of famous people from the east doesn't mean it dosn't have a HUGE underground scene.
Yea, CA has hip hop areas... but it's mainly compacted in one area. Underground or not, it's strictly in one area.
And i do understand that there is other parts of CA with hip hop scenes around oakland and the bay area, but come on, it just can't touch NYC, Philly, Newark, or Baltimore.

Yea, just beacause it has it doesn't mean it's a buffet of it.
