I really dislike rerecordings by original artists!

Remastering is one thing. Altering the music or rerecording the lyrics so that the song sounds just different enough to make me cringe like I'm hearing fingernails on a chalkboard is something else! I can tell the difference between the original and almost any other version. I don't care if the original was recorded in mono on terrible recording equipment (some Beatles tunes, for example). I still prefer that version. I'm middle-aged and stubborn.
I would not change my original Beatles 65 album for anything (10 years old at the time). It is just part of the times/culture that I will always remember forever. I have not heard most of songs in 30+ years but I still hear that vinyl sound as if it were yesterday. No Beatles pun intended.
Good for you!!!!! -- I have several Beatles records! (ALL ORIGINAL ANALOGUE RECORDINDS AND I LOVE THEM)

It's practically impossible to find an original version of "Precious and Few" by Climax online, in fact. I have one - on cassette tape. *sigh*
Another example was "Don't Pull Your Love" by Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds. iTunes has the original version now (yay!), but a few weeks ago when I checked, there was only this awful "new and improved" version. Euww.
I am glad, though, that it's possible to listen to a song snippet first so you know ahead of time what you're getting. I got burned by that on a couple of CDs a long time ago.
Thank you for reading this rant. Feel free to add to it, in fact.
I feel exactly as you do!!!!!
I have Steve Winwoods record "Talking back to the night" (1982) and the ORIGINAL VERSION OF VALERIE IS ON HERE!! (Before he added all those sound effects)
I love it!!!!!!!!!!! -- It is insanely good!!!!!!!!!! (I think this is HIS BEST ALBUM)
I COULDNT AGREE MORE......... LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE!!!!!!!!!
I'm happy to report that I do have the correct version of "Precious and Few" now. I'm still looking for other songs, like the original version of "Winners and Losers" (another good song by Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds).
Dude111, thanks for reviving this thread! I love Steve Winwood, and "Talking Back to the Night" is one of my favorite songs of his. (And yes, I realize you were talking about the album, not the song!)
