Well yeah, I'd probably approve of changes if it meant someone else made me more money on their version than I had made in my entire recording career combined.

I do like the Robert Hazard version though.

I like this better than Simon & Garfunkle's version:

Harpers Bizarre - The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin'Groovy) - YouTube

I'm also partial to their unusual version of this standard:

Anything Goes / Harpers Bizarre - YouTube

This is my favorite version of all time:

Johnny Mathis-Misty (1959) - YouTube

Another where I heard the cover first and didn't know it was a cover. I seem to recall liking the original on hearing it, but probably still preferring the cover.

Deadstar Assembly - Send Me An Angel - YouTube

Not that the original by Real Life in the 80s was bad, just that I love the energy these guys injected into it.

Also:

Crossbreed - Superstition - YouTube

Not sure I like this one better than Stevie Wonder's, but it surprised the heck out of me how much I like it.

I'm still on the fence as to whether this is better than Queen's original, but I do love it.

In a way, this isn't a cover song because the song is being done here by one of its writers, but this is my most favorite singer James Otto singing a song that was not only co-written by him, but named the 2009 ACM and CMA Song of the Year: "In Color" originally done by fellow country singer Jamey Johnson.

God bless you and James and Jamey always!!!

Holly

P.S. To me, no one sings with more heart than James. No one.

I'm not sure what the first recordings were, but here are a couple of the best~one instrumental; the other with lyrics written for it later:

John W. Bratton - The Teddy Bear's Picnic (1907) - YouTube

Neva Eder - The Teddy Bears Picnic - YouTube
