Isn't it just a traditional? Anyway, I love Whiskey in the Jar.

All Along the Watchtower ~~ Hendrix

Hurt ~~ Johnny Cash

Mad World ~~ Gary Jules (love the video)

Hallelujah ~~ Jeff Buckley

Smooth Criminal ~~ Alien Ant Farm

That's enough for now.
I've always liked Alien Ant Farm's "Smooth Criminal" better than Michael Jackson, they made the song sound their own, definitely agree with you that Jimi Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower" was far superior to Bob Dylan's version.

Best and Worst Cover Versions

Wasn't that "It's My Life"? Whatever it was, No Doubt killed it.
I really liked "It's My Life" by No Doubt, I thought their version was far superior to Talk Talk's version.

Who did the cover version to Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street"? It came out sometime in 1998 and it's done by a rock band

I know Foo Fighters did a version of it.

Yeah, you're right. It was 'It's My Life'. I think I was smoking crack or something when I posted. I still like the No Doubt version better though.

Earlier, Cake's version of War Pigs was mentioned. I never listened to Cake much, but my friend showed me this version and I totally dug it when I heard it. Faith No More also has a pretty awesome cover of it. As for my list...I admit, I don't necessarily like these covers more than the originals (some yes, some no) but they are awesome in their own right.

Don't Let It Bring You Down - Annie Lennox (originally Neil Young)
The Times They Are a Changin' - Blackmore's Night (originally Bob Dylan)
School's Out - GWAR (originally Alice Cooper)
When The Levee Breaks - A Perfect Circle (totally different from the original by Led Zeppelin, but still excellent)
Higher Ground - The Red Hot Chili Peppers (originally Stevie Wonder)
Exciter - Strapping Young Lad (originally Judas Priest)
America - Yes (originally Simon and Garfunkel)
Cinnamon Girl - Type O Negative (originally Neil Young)

There's a song called "Just the Two of Us", done by Grover Washington and/or Bill Withers. Anyway, I hear a version of that song at work sometimes, and they have steel drums or marimba or something in it that gives it a tropical flair...and that's the version I like best.

Led Zeppelin's The Ocean covered by Zebra. ZZ Top's version of Sam and Dave's "I Thank You" on the good side.

"Don't Dream It's Over"--neutral

"Train in Vain", "Dream On", and "Maybe I'm Amazed"--didn't like. All originally by male singers, and redone by women singers.
