Well with all the other country songs mentioned, I can't help but mention, "What Might've Been" by Little Texas

I've got a couple to add; I forgot about these until I heard them recently. These get me because of the things they remind me of:

"Stand By Me" by Ben E. King
"Tender Years" by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band

Another Dan F. fan here. Amazing singer/songwriter and loved his shows.

This is cliched, but "Cats in the Cradle" always gets me right in the gut.

YouTube - A Whiter Shade Of Pale - Procol Harum

Maybe more somber than sad, still a great tune.

I've just recently stumbled across an unisgned artist on Myspace called Barnaby Griffin. I found all his songs very sad and poignant, especially the one entitled "14 Seconds". It's a shame the production isn't a bit more professional. There are a lot of unsigned artists out there creating some very sad music, it's a shame they can't get more exposure. The song above can be heard here, along with his other sad songs.
