This was my song, pigeons used to get on my nerves with that TLC one so when this one came out I instantly thought it was funny (I was like 6 at the time).

Default Scarface movie and hip-hop/rap

As I know Scarface movie influenced on hip-hop subculture in general and on rap particularly pretty much. I guess all this flashy golden and diamond jewelry rappers wear became popular among them because of Scarface movie where Tony Montana and other tough guys had worn that kind of jewels. Another example of how serious Scarface movie's impact was is that some rappers used Scarface references in their songs and even one of the rappers took Scarface as his stage name.
I've created this thread just to ask hip-hop/rap fans what they know about Scarface influence on hip-hop. Any mentions of the artists that use Scarface references in their interviews or songs are welcomed. And of course I'd be glad to hear examples of any articles (if you know ones) about this issue I should read if I want to understand the subject better as I'm trying to fill the gaps in my education.

Well, first Scarface was a drug dealer who made it big. A lot of rappers came from neighborhoods where drug dealers are common, so the movie resonated with them. Second, Scarface was a man who came from absolutly nothing to become rich and powerful. Again, many MC's come from poor backgrounds, so this idea they can relate to. Third, Scarface says a line in thr movie, "Say goodbye to the bad guy". while in a fancy restaurant. He's saying that no matter how rich he gets, he will always be looked at as low class. Again, sentiments felt by many hip hop artists.
Finally, at the end, he gets into a huge gunfight (say hello to my little freind!). He gives his enemies a hell of a fight before he goes down. He embodies the tough guy image that many hip hop artists aspire to.

I'm not saying whether this is morally right or wrong (after all, it was only a movie) but it is what it is.

Do you know any artists who claim that Scarface impacted on their creative works much?

Just watch an episode of MTV cribs, you'll get your answer

Just about every artist from Ghetto Boys to Jay Z will say that the movie had a great impact on not only their music but their lives.
