If blood will flow, when flesh and steel are one
drying in the color of the evening sun
Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away
but something in our minds will always stay.
Perhaps this final act
was meant to clinch a lifetime's argument
that nothing comes from violence
and nothing ever could.
For all those born beneath an angry star
lest we forget how fragile we are...
On and on the rain will fall,
like tears from a star
like tears from a star.
On and on the rain will say,
how fragile we are
how fragile we are
how fragile we are
Lol.. ok so not everyone is into this song.. but I like it and think it qualifies as poetry in song. I can't link the entire song.. which is a shame.. but here is an excerpt.
Natalie Merchant - Ophelia
Ophelia was a bride of God
A novice Carmelite
In sister cells
The cloister bells tolled on her wedding night
Ophelia was the rebel girl
A blue stocking suffragette
Who remedied society between her cigarettes
And Ophelia was the sweetheart
To a nation overnight
Curvaceous thighs
Vivacious eyes
Love was at first sight
Love was at first sight
For Ophelia'd know your every woe
And every pain you'd ever had
She'd sympathize and dry your eyes
And help you to forget
Help you to forget
And help you to forget
Ophelia's mind went wandering
You'd wonder where she'd gone
Through secret doors down corridors
She wanders them alone
All alone
**And I just wanted to add that.. No, I don't think this song is about a crazy woman but rather is a metaphor for all women. (and not implying that all women are crazy, either)**
Anyways.. let me stop before I scr*w this up even more, lol.
I am just a poor boy, though my story's seldom told
I have squandered my existence, for a pocketful of mumbles
such are promises
All lies and jest, still a man hears what he wants to hear
and disregards the rest, hm, hm, hm...
When i left my home and my family I was no more than a boy
in the company of strangers ... in the quiet of the railway station
running scared ...
Laying low, seeking out the poorer quarters where the ragged people go
looking for the places, only they would know...
Seeking only workman's wages I go looking for a job but I get no offers,
just a come-on from the whores on Seventh Avenue...
I do declare there were times when I was so lonesome
I took some comfort there
In the clearing stands a boxer and a fighter by his trade
and he carries a reminder, of every glove that laid him out
or cut him till he cried out, in his anger and his shame
I am leaving I am leaving but the fighter still remains
yes he still remains
We'll hoist a hand, becalmed upon a troubled sea
Make haste your funeral, cried the valkyrie
We'll hoist a hand, becalmed upon a stormy sea
I fear a mighty wave is threatening me, it calls to me
And all for nothing, quite in vain was hope forever tossed
No moments gained, no thoughts explained, all hope forever lost
One moments space, one moments final fall from grace
Burnt in fire, blind in sight, lost in ire.
When I was young and they packed me off to school
and they taught me how not, to play the game
I didn't mind if they groomed me for success,
or if they said that I was just a fool.
I left there in the morning,
with their God packed under my arm,
a half as*ed smile, and a book of rules.
So, I asked this God a question,
and by way of His firm reply, He said,
"I'm not the kind that has to wind up, on Sundays."
So, to my old headmaster, and to anyone who cares,
before I go, I'd like to say, my prayers...
I don't believe you, you have the whole damn thing all wrong,
He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays...
Well you can excommunicate me, on my way to Sunday school,
and have all the bishops ... harmonize these lines...
Fire The sun is well asleep
Moon is high above
Fire grows from the east
How is this
Hate so deep
Lead us all so blindly killing killing
Fools are we
If hate's the gate to peace
This is the last stop
For raining tears
War
The only way to Peace
I don't fall for that
Raining tears
Right is wrong now
Shut up you big lie
This black and white lie
You comb your hair to hide
Your lying eyes
You're righteous, so righteous
You're always so right
But why you lie
Go ahead and dream
Go ahead believe that you are the chosen one
This is the last stop
I'm sick and tired of hearing things
from uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocrites
all I want is the truth, just gimme some truth.
I've had enough of reading things
from neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians
all I want is the truth, just gimme some truth
No short haired, yellow-bellied son of tricky Dicky's
is gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
with just a pocketful of hope
It's money for rope
It's money for dope
I'm sick to death of seeing things
from tight-lipped, condescending mama's little chauvinists
all I want is the truth
just gimme some truth
I've had enough of watching scenes
of schizophrenic, egocentric, paranoiac, prima donnas
all I want is the truth now
just gimme some truth now
all I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth
You call yourself the moral majority
We call ourselves the people in the real world
Trying to rub us out, but we're going to survive
God must be dead if you're alive.
Circus-tent con-men and southern belle bunnies
Milk your emotions then they steal your money
Its the new dark ages with the fascists toting bibles
Cheap nostalgia for the salem witch trials.
Stodgy ayatollahs in their dobble-knit ties
Burn lots of books so they can feed you their lies
Masturbating with a flag and a bible
God must be dead if you're alive.
You don't want abortions, you want battered children
You want to ban the pill as if that solves the problem
Now you wanna force us to pray in school
God must be dead if you're such a fool.
You're planning for a war with or without Iran
Building a police state with the ku klux klan
Pissed at your neighbor? Don't bother to nag
Pick up the phone and turn in a f*g!
This was the best video I could find of the song.. but pretty powerful stuff regardless.
