I'm a dork for watching Disney movie songs in different languages on YT. I actually learned a few Arabic words from these. Not particularly useful ones, but well, a start.

Gawaher I think Non Egyptians pronounce this Jawaher. I haven't been able to figure out if she is from lower Egypt or Sudan.

Let's not forget Abd Al Halim Hafez. Abu Bakr Salim is always good when you want to break out of the Egyptian genre. As for "poppy" girly music, I'd have to say Nawal Al Zogby paved the way for these newbies. Nawal was the "Madonna" to Nancy Agram's "Britney Spears".
