A cowbell mounted on to a drum set was pretty much standard issue back in the '60s. My 1962 Slingerland set had one. I mean, how could I have played along with the Beatles "You Can't Do That" without one?

The more cowbell SNL skit is one of the best of all times.

Right. Or I Call Your Name. Those are both great songs. Cowbells were standard issue earlier than that too, in dance bands. Lots of Latin beats use 'em.

You don't still have the drum set, do you?

Wish I did. After a few years I traded in my old wood-tone Slingerland set on a new Ludwig double tom set in Black Oyster Pearl. Same color as Ringo's!

Sadly, I sold that set too, about 35 years ago.
