Gee! I must be the only person on the planet who never listened to Smells Like Teen Spirit!!!!!!!

With respect to everyone's choices, I would pick Stevie Ray Vaughan. His death was one of those "folklore" things. He had freed himself of his prior weaknesses and was a wonderful person, as well as, IMO, as good as any who ever played.

This is not intended as a challenge to anyone else's preferences - I hate that! It's just how I feel.

Randy Rhoads, for these reasons

- First of all because he died young and of no fault of his own,

- He was a phenominal (sp) musician, who changed rock guitar within a very short time, and left an influence on guitarists for generations.

- He was just getting started

A lot of great musicians have been named, but if I had the power to bring one back, I would not bring one back who took their own life or was otherwise responsible for their own death, like an OD or wrecklessness. (Cobain, Hendrix, Joplin,...)

I would also not bring one back that had peaked or passed their prime. (Lennon, Gaye,...)

Some musicians fit both of those catagories, (Elvis, MJ,...)

Leaving the younger upcoming talents who died innocently and could have given us much more than they had a chance to. (Holly, Valens, Selena, Rhoads,...)

Not exactly role models, but they were way ahead of their time musically.

So many greats! Can you imagine where they'd be today in their music .. being what they were already, when they died?

I'm with you tasmtairy, my two faves also.

I don't know if I would agree that he died through no fault of his own. For all we know, it was his idea to buzz the tour bus.

I'd bring back Buddy Holly to see what he could do with modern equipment and influences.
