Turbo-folk is a very popular musical sub-genre that originated in Serbia, Balkans during the early 1990s. Though it is closely associated with performers from Serbia, it continues to be very popular in the other former Yugoslav republics, namely Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Macedonia, Croatia and Slovenia.
Additionally, turbo-folk is also present in Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece where it is enjoyed alongside Chalga, Arabesk and Laïka, the corresponding Bulgarian, Turkish and Greek genres.
A very similar style of music is popular in Romania, where it is known as Manele.
I will post one song from the beginning of pop folk genre.

There are other similar style songs. After that period Tzvetelina makes wonderful new style songs with genre called Bulgarian Pop folk.
It will be interesting to see translated lyrics.

Only 2 of the videos in the original post are still available. Ok, but not special for me. Only a couple of the later vids are visible at the links either. I am not motivated to look harder.
