Did you grow up in the 80's? If so, were you a punk rocker? Heavy metal? Hair band type? Or pop? Or did you venture in a mix of them? What are some of your favorite songs from back then?
One of my faves was the band Journey...... "Don't stop believin'...." and "I'm forever yours.....faithfully".
I remember watching a show on the weekends called Night Tracks. Anybody remember this show? It was pre-MTV era.
The 80's was a transition time for me. I was already grown up--well, sort of.
I was a hippie from the 70's, and then the 80's happened and everything changed!
I was at the end of my 20's and married and having babies, yet I still wanted to go out and hear live music.
There was a lot I got in on, but plenty that I missed out on.
I remember MTV and videos and all that stuff. Videos became huge.
U2, the Pogues, Warren Zevon, the Police were some of my bands then, along with traditional favorites from the 70's. I liked Michael Jackson, too. It was before he got kinda weird. Thriller was awesome.
You probably hope to hear from someone closer to your age, but I just thought I'd throw in my take on it for variety.
Punk/New Waver here. I remember hearing the Pistols and Ramones in the late 70's. I turned 13 in 1980. Next thing you knew, I was all about Joy Division, Klaus Nomi, Iggy, Damned, Gang of Four, Siouxsie. Then in college, New Order (Ian .. sniff sniff), Smiths, then in grad school, Charlatans, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays ... I couldn't tell you what's popular now.
I do have to admit, I have some guilty pleasure music, love songs Guns n Roses, Europe, .38 Special, Rundgren, Canned Heat. Shhhh, don't tell anyone, they'll take away my punk rocker card.
Loved it! Fine cinema.
Got my older kid to watch it too, to give him some background.
Love Steve Coogan.
Again, I am older, but I still was sort of dipping my toe in the 80's scene.
(heh--as much as you can in 1980's Denver, Colorado. )
I'm forever stuck in the 80's and love that decade as i had a blast being in the navy (USS Sampson DDG-10) and got to travel all around the world and had sooooo much fun in the Carribean listening/dancing to Duran Duran at the Pina Colada Clubs back then.....
Yes i love the 80's Hairbands......RATT, Def Leppard, MotleyCrue, Ozzy, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, Great White, Dokken, Iron Maiden, Cinderella, Poison, LA Guns etc... and the greatest 80's Rock song ever ''Welcome to the jungle''.....

Nice, as far as I got into punk rock was The Cure, The Ramones and The Sex Pistols as well as Concrete Blonde.
Oh yeah, I also liked the Pretenders, Eurythmics, the Cars, and Billy Idol baby!
I was suprised to see you put up Europe, wow! They had like 2 songs I remember, Carrie and The Final Countdown...lol.
