I heard this on KCKN today, anybody else hear of David Allan Coe? This video tribute is for Dale Sr. but the song is about an "encounter" with Hank Sr.
Desert Kid-This might just be my favorite David Allan Coe song.
I wrote him back a letter and told him it was NOT the perfect country-western song because he hadn't said anything at all about
mama, or trains, or trucks, or prison, or gettin' drunk.
Well, he sat down and wrote another verse to the song...
Well, I was drunk the day my Mom got outta prison.
And I went to pick her up in the rain.
But, before I could get to the station in my pickup truck
She got runned over by a damned old train.
^^^Great song! I have actually heard that one many times. You know this is the only place where there are likeminded folks like me, who like this old stuff, albeit your all older than me, but your great company. Thanks Again.
He definatly counts as one of the most influential country singers of the 1980's. He was associated with Eddie Rabbitt, Crystal Gayle and Kenny Rogers.

Anyone have anything similar?
Well, back in my hometown (Beaumont, Texas), George Jones used to play in a couple of honky-tonks (country/western bars) there before he got famous. My dad went to one of his appearances to one of them back then. My dad said he really filled up the bar and everyone loved him. A star was born, I guess you can say!
and there is another song of his I like, "No, No Joe" where he calls out Joseph Stalin.
He didn't die in a car accident. He died in the backseat of the car from heart failure/alcohol poisoning. He was in route to another concert and passed out dead in the backseat.
