Faron Young
He was known in country music circles as "The Singin' Sheriff", but he also had a big impact on the career of another country artist, Willie Nelson, by recording "Hello Walls" in 1961. Willie wrote that song and the single earned a gold disc for Faron, and it kick-started Nelson's legendary career. In addition, Faron also co-founded a world-famous Nashville publication called "The Music City News".

Barbara Mandrell
This sensational artist (now retired) had a very successful career in country and even had her own TV variety show on NBC with her two sisters, Louise and Irlene. What set Barbara apart from many other country artists is that she played a vast number of musical instruments in her lifetime (most notably, the steel guitar). Incidentally, Barbara's TV series had good ratings, but she elected to pull the plug on the series after only two years. The reason? Her vocal cords had gotten strained, the result of lots of work between television, concerts, and recording new works.
Tonight My Baby's Comin' Home - Barbara Mandrell
I think this is one of the few trucking songs performed by a female artist. There aren't many.
