Jim .. who's gonna git Ginger toy & go play with her outside!!
Me and Ginger went to the doggie park for a few minutes. It's out of the way here and lots of traffic, lights and whatnot. There was a young male Dalmatian - same size as Ginger, really cute dog. Ginger, being Ginger, immediately ran up to the Dalmatian puppy front legs bend, butt up in the air - submissive to the puppy wanted to befriend this pup. The owner wasn't too friendly to me either so I waited to see the reaction of the dog. The Dalmatian snapped at Ginger! Ugh! The owner was okay with it. Poor Ginger dealt with rejection. I called her and she ran 100mph to me, feelings hurt and wanting to escape the nasty. Ginger can RUN! I wonder what Ginger should really be doing since she is super friendly and can RUN fast.
Then later in eve, after we returned from the walk around the apartment complex, we were standing in front of the door talking to a neighbor. There is a white Perness (sp?) dog here, the owner is a Cook (we have similar work uniforms) that Ginger has tried to befriend (growled at her) before. So, here they come walking on the sidewalk toward us. I had Ginger sitting still (good girl!!!) and the white P dog stopped in front of Ginger. I looked at her in eyes and said "Oh Now you want to be friends, huh?" the owner smiled and then the dog attacked Ginger's mouth. Ginger fell back-wards. I was totally shocked as my neighbor because Ginger was so good and this dog attacks my dog. The owner just said "You shouldn't do that" and walked away.
I think I need to research Golden Clubs so Ginger can play with her own kind.
hmmm.. how old is Ginger? .. is she still puppy-like? .. sometimes puppy
behavior looks bad but its dog ways.. dogs always read & reflect the
caregivers energy.. if you're fearful, Ginger will read that energy.. I would
look for puppy clubs..
this way you could see how they are with each other.. puppy posture
seem to be wantin to dare play with the other puppy.. a kinda play that
could be read as playful dominance.. if she was gonna be submissive..
she would have went down on all fours or rolled on her back showin her
tummy.. also the way dogs go is with the nose first.. sniffin around the
other dog first..
she sounds like she wanted to leap around.. & play snap as puppies will do..
that other dog wanted to show dominance.. was Ginger right next to you
or kinda at a distance.. if she was right next to you & the other dog did
that then thats way outta line.. dog behavoir is very subtle as well..
probably that dog read its owner energy which is why, to establish dominance
you ignore that dog & address the owner first with a hello.. subtly step in front
of Ginger signalling to the other dog that you are the leader of that pack..
then maybe say somethin to the dog if anythin.. but to establish
power, in the dog world you ignore the dog approachin, make sure
Ginger is at your side & address the owner with no eye contact to
that owner's dog..
hope that help? Jim.. : comes back..: ok this is an episode of an
aggressive dog gittin crazy around a Golden.. this wouldn't help
Ginger but will give some idea of what happens when the problem
dog finally learns how to act..
Jim,
Ginger was born on Thanksgiving Day 2009 which makes her = 6 months old. Her last weight in two weeks ago was 43 lbs. I'm not fearful at all unless its a ______ (fill in the blank) and Golden's fit my personality more so than other breeds.
Re-enacting back to the park with the Dalmatian;
I left her off the leash when we were inside the park with gates closed. She ran ahead up to the Dalmatian, front paws down, butt up, submissive, rolled on her back, waited and then jumped up to run in small circles "Catch me if you can" meanwhile I was about 100 steps behind still walking. The Dalmatian snapped at Ginger. I stopped walking forward to wait to see what will happen next. Then she ran to me when I called her. Ginger is "okay - half way there obey type" when I call her.
With the White neighbor dog, I had Ginger sitting (just like in the video) and my mood was friendly asking the dog if he/she was ready to be nice. ....... Update on that dog, last night that dog walked right past us (Ginger sitting) and the owner gave ME a dirty look! After he past us, we both watched them walk away, the dog jumped up into the owners arms and he carried her, showed affection to her and kept walking. I heard his buddy walking with him say "What happened? Whats wrong?" and the owner didn't say anything. I got the eye drops - methinks - because I had just gotten home from work in uniform (he is a Cook too) and mine is higher ranking. Oh! Freak! You said the dog picks up the owners attitude? I think you solved the problem with my neighbor Jim!
: dreamin about Ginger.. I was laffin.. wake up & run to git on
the computer.. wanna see if there's somethin about Ginger:
2Goldens!!!
quickly reads.. LAFFIN!!!! You got it!!! Yeaaap!!! He's
JEALOUS!!!! haaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaa!!! What a Bonehead!
haaaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaa!!!
:go on a knee..kissin Ginger's head: No wonder I dreamed of you Ginger!!
That guy is jealous of you Mom&his dog reflected his attitude! You just
a bit of a pup aren't you girl?.. smilin..
yeap.. you got a good Mom that's why you're so friendly! :Beamin at her
as she licks my face..me laffin:
Guess what though.. that dude read YOUR energy.. haaaaaaahaaaaaa!
Picked up his dog.. what is he.. scared our Ginger gonna do somethin???
haaaaaaaaahaaaaaaa!!! The Cookin world is way competitive
as you already know..
wellllll.. we got to the bottom of it after all. Ginger since you rolled over
you were bein a good girl wantin to play.. some pups just gotta be
socialized is all.. they don't know how to be a dog yet!
Too bad they don't have a puppy part cause they're like little kids &
sometimes bigger dogs don't like their energy & will ruff them up..
that other pup sounds like it need to be socialized around other dogs..
I would see if any other stuff happens to Ginger at that same park.. if
there seems to be a really nice dog.. maybe Ginger can be specially
introduced to that dog then she'll have a buddy.. I like dogs when they're
puppies & kittens too because of their energy..
: givin her another special scratch: .. ok Ginger since you're fine I'm goin
back to bed..
We are leaving in a few minutes to go to a swimming hole somebody told me about. This will be her first time to swim unless she tried to with the breeder in the bathtube full of Goldens! Ha! I'll show you that picture of her with brothers / sisters in the bathtub ... just too cute for words.
Ive seen the "Catch me if you can" circular run with my 2goldens together. Its a fun game to them. She was ready to play, she knew she was in the doggie park to socilaize and play. Well, we're heading out to swim!
