What's up guys. New to the forum. Living in Arlington, VA and doing some work with Lexus Magazine. Just wanted to say I'm a big fan of The Grateful Dead...wish I could've seen them before Jerry died. Anyone ever see them play live?
Welcome to the music forum Travelguy07! Yea, I've seen them in 3 different decades. While not my favorite group by any stretch, I still love their material, group AND solo, though I don't have all of their recordings. The first time I saw them was at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colo. in 1972. The thing that made them unique to me was changing the song lineup after every show. Speaking of which, I just listened to American Beauty day before yesterday, one of my favorite albums of theirs.
Thanks Double H! Looking forward to chatting on the site - seems like a great place. That's pretty sweet that you got to see them over 3 different decades. My only run in with them was at Bonnaroo in 2004, but obviously the line up they have now is nothing like the original ones. American Beauty and Workingman's Dead are probably my two favorite albums of theres.
welcome travelguy, I too saw the Dead 3 times all between 84-89, they were never my favorite band either but I always liked there sound. Here's one of my favorites
Hola Travelguy! Bienvenidos to the Music forum. I think you will find that the folks on this particular forum share a synergetic enjoyment of fine music and a brother/sisterhood that is seldom rivaled on most of the other forums.
I got to see the Dead one time with Jerry - great show. I think Brent Mydland (spelling?) was the keyboardist.
I was chatting on Facebook recently with an old pal I haven't seen in many years. He's a true worshiper and will be seeing their new lineup in Florida in February or March. He's in NH, BTW. I caught them a couple of times in the 70s and I'm fine with that. For real, Deadheads are like no others. I had another friend who just followed them around for years - probably still is. A while back I found 52 or maybe it was 58 bootlegs for sale. Bought them all for the astonishing price of five bucks and after listening to a few, good quality and all, promptly handed them over to the nearest aficionado I could find. They'd have just withered with me anyway. Apparently, I made a new best friend. He keeps me supplied with all sorts of neat stuff. Gotta love the Dead!
I just got into them and I love them. I always assumed they'd be too "hippie dippie" for me, but they are amazing. I've never heard music that instantly makes me so happy to be alive before.
