Default What are the successful rock bands from your city?

I'm creating a directory of all successful American rock bands, past and present, listed by place of origin. I know, it's quite the project! Already I have 700 bands on my list. They originate from 43 states and the District of Columbia. The city with the most bands, so far, is Los Angeles, CA (78), followed by New York, NY (60).

Here are my parameters for inclusion on the list:
1. bands must have formed in the United States
2. all bands must have been signed to a recording label
3. crossover bands are included, as long as rock is their dominant genre
4. a solo individual may be listed if their name stands alone in rock music
5. bubblegum, mainstream pop, R&B, and 1950's doo-wop is excluded
6. heavier emphasis on current and recent rock bands

So-- what are the successful bands from your town or city? All submissions are certainly welcome and will be considered. Rock on!

^Thank you, that's an interesting link. But most of those bands are unsigned, so not many of them actually meet my criteria. I'll certainly look for any that I can include on my list.

My hometown born and bread include:

John Bon Jovi
Bruce Springsteen
Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes
Whitney Houston
Connie Francis

Jon my family knows well, my sisters boy plays football with Johns son.

Whitney Houston lived next door to Mike Tyson back in the day. The other side neighbor was Malcom Forbes. I worked in Mike's house when he was married to Robin Givins but never seen Whitney. Ahh the good ol days.

Where I grew up was a small, s-hole of a town and the closest city was Pittsburgh. The most famous singer that I know of was Donnie (Dawnie) Iris.

There are some you can check: Dead Kennedys,Flipper,MDC,Black Flag,Circle Jerks,Decendents,Bad Religion,Germs,Middle Class (they released the very first hardcore record in 1978),Minutemen,Social Distortion,Suicidal Tendencies,TSOL,X,Poison Idea,The Wipers,Hüsker Dü,The Replacements,The Effigies,Naked Raygun,Meatmen,Negative Approach,Necros,Corrosion Of Conformity,SSD,Misfits,Agnostic Front,Cro-Mags,Sick Of It All,Bad Brains,Minor Threat,/ Seconds,DRI,.
They are all wellknown and influential in hardcore punk, but very few of them were signed to major labels.
There are also other influential bands that I excluded because they released very few records.
Now you decide which bands fits your criteria.
