Undun is a classic! So is Laughing, No Time, American Woman, etc.
I'm 22 and I loveeeee me some Guess Who.
Ah, to be 22! Speaking of 22, that's how old I was when I first saw them in '72 at the glorious old barn itself, the Denver Colisseum. Later that year they released the Live At The Paramount lp. Sadly Randy Bachman had already left the band to form his band Brave Belt, then later Bachman Turner Overdrive. But the Guess Who turned in a strong two and a half hour set.
RCA/BMG not too long ago reissued Live At The Paramount on CD again, with several more tracks. It's worth getting, and it's a budget price. I got mine for seven bucks. Ah, to be 22 again!
I saw the Guess Who in concert way back when you ficked your bic and some people lit up the left handed cigs when the lights were dimmed
They ended the night with American Woman and the crowd went wild!!!
I attended the American Bandstand tour in 1988, where they had a band from the '50's (the Drifters) a band from the '60's ( the Association) a Band from the '70's (the Guess Who) and a band from the '80's, I don't remember who they were they were too loud and we left.
But what a great show that was, the Guess Who played most of there big hits and they did some covers of other 70's acts.
Excellent thread about a really great band. I'm with you HH on the top ten list. First time I heard them was Shakin' All Over from which the band got their name in a roundabout fashion.
From Wiki: "Shakin' All Over" gained fame in North America after Chad Allan and the Expressions covered it in 1965, where it was a #1 hit in Canada. Several months later, concerned that the effect of the British Invasion might eclipse the potential for success in the US by a Canadian act, the record label issued the song to radio stations in the States on a white label, with the artist listed as Guess Who?
Heh! I can almost hear Morrison singing this one...
Burton did a low budget movie in the early 80s called Melanie. It starred Glynnis O'Connor, Don Johnson and Paul Sorvino. It was a pretty good movie with several of his songs in it. He looked really good in it and did a pretty good acting job as a washed up singer. I don't think it is on DVD. I used to have a copy on a VHS tape that I recorded. I have'nt seen it in ages.if you get a chance check it out.
I also liked the song by the band did called Seems Like I Ca'nt Live With You, But I Can't Live Without You. It was dedicated to Gram Parsons right around the time he died.
