“A thousand years from now they’re going to look back on the 20th Century and what have the countries of the world given us? The United States gave the world atomic weapons. England gave the world music. What a great legend”.
Now was Gene being sarcastic when he said this? Was there a larger context for him saying this? He is hardly a dumb guy, but considering that he is an immigrant from Israel and all the U.S. has not only done for that country as well as the British 60's and 70's music scene being largely inspired by American R&B and early rock, such a remark is at the very least inane and at worst inflammatory.

Thoughts?
My guess is that he's playing to his audience. Based on the little I've seen from Gene on his reality show and Celebrity Apprentice, Gene seems very supportive of U.S. troops and comes across as a proud American. He is also a shameless self-promoter.

He should take his family jewels and tritty trot back across the pond.
