Default 80s music era and why i think it is THE BEST of ALL TIME!

WELL, FOR ONE, i grew up in the 80s. but i heard 70s songs in my elementary years, of course 80s songs in my teenage years, 90s came with the exception of mariah, the music was eh, then the current decade. i havent listened to new music or radio since the 80s and mariah's new album. is it the 90s that the revival of music was rampant? also if there are revivals currently it is always the 80s music. i dont know but they never make music like in the 80s anymore. the theme now is all sex and violence. rap in the 80s was cooler and cleaner. and i am glad i witnessed first hand the genius and awesomeness of michael jackson. i won't be surprised of the ones who cried when he died grew up in the 80s, like me. it is sad how his fame messed him up but you only look at the thriller video and dont doubt why he conquered the music world in the 80s. in fact, even before he died the thriller video is the most downloaded ever.

i am needlessly forever warped in the 80s music. i also remember even in the 80s, i was a pirate in that, i never buy cassette tapes but prefer to tape in from radio to my cassette. i have loads of them. now internet and piratebay made it easier and needless to say again, i only download 80s or mariah's music. well actually i USED to buy mariah's CDs, coz she is the ONLY artists worth buying for me.

anyway i am just reminiscing the 80s music coz i am currently watching 80s vids in youtube and glad i experienced first hand the greatest music era and great music artists and songs to ever be released. OH ALSO, how cool was MTV?! MTV in the 80s is the epitome of coolness for me. MTV now is all reality crap. wat the hell. and the music videos so cool!!

it is only my opinion. any violent reactions? it is welcome. you can also say why you agree with me. oh i just wanna add, boy george ruled my teenage music world.

I definitely agree with you that the music has reached its golden peak in the eighties and I consider that to be overall the best era of music, I loved the amazing and creative music videos from that era and I miss the days of watching music videos on MTV and I thought that it was the cool music channel, I loved the upbeat pop music, the commercial rock bands, the metal bands and the hair bands, I thought everything went downhill after that due to the crappy grunge invasion which destroyed the good rock music

The 80's were pretty bad. Way too materialistic and "me, me, me me" type of an attitude. The only bright spot were the college rock and indie bands like The Smiths, Pixies, Replacements, REM and stuff like that.

Same for me ..... as i grew up as a kid and teen in the depressing 70's as most people i knew just smoked dope, popped quaaludes and acted like cheech and chong as it was a totally depressing decade as we had a U.S. president resign while in office (Nixon), we lost the Vietnam War with some 60,000 American military war dead, an oil embargo against us (huge long gas lines) and figured that we (USA) and the Soviets would destroy the earth with some 20,000 nuke warheads pointed at each other and besides i've never cared for the ''depressed'' type people as i've always gravitated to the fun and happy-go-lucky and cheesy like people just like the 80's decade and it's music scene was all about and so we needed a ''party decade'' after living thru that depressing 70's decade before it. Besides i could only take so much Captain and Tennille from the 70's

I also love the other happy-go-lucky decade as that was the ''Roaring Twenties'' (1920's)

In the title of this thread you said "why I think it's the best of all time", but you never said why. You only said things like (I'll paraphrase) "the '80s were the best, as you can see for yourself by watching the videos" and "it was awesome."

So, WHY was it the best of all time?

All decades have plenty of good and bad music, but I'll go out on a limb and say that if you made a list of the worst music ever made, the '80s would be represented more heavily than any other decade.

why? new wave music rocks them all, that's why. it was also when rap was introduced and like i said rap in the 80s makes sense and is not all about sex and violence like now. also ONLY 80s music makes me dance. what more reason do u want. oh also it makes me reminisce my youth. and how i got it all wrong, up to now actually. my wasted youth as opposed to my wasted life now. 2 words: boy george. need i say more? hehehehe

well also, michael jackson. george michael's music in wham! was the best of them all. madonna's music in the 80s is the best of all time in her career like MJ's. i have many reasons. the main maybe is coz, i have never appreciated music again the way i did in the 80s. maybe coz i got older and music is not a big deal now to me? we all know appreciation of music is at its peak in your teeanage years. why do you think the teenagers are ALWAYS the target? and the age group that almost always buys/downloads new music.

if you are looking for universal reason i mean a reason that represents or is accepted by majority. i dont think u will find it on my posts. that's why it said "WHY I THINK" MEANING my own opinion, not everyone else's.
