There seems to be some misunderstanding of what "supergroup" means. A supergroup is a band made up of musicians who already had achieved some degree of success in other groups (or as solo acts) prior to the formation of the supergroup.
A supergroup is not a band from which one of the members goes on to bigger success.
Nobody in Amboy Dukes, for instance, had been successful in music prior to the Amboy Dukes becoming a band.
I wouldn't consider the Yardbirds a supergroup, either. They are more like a reverse supergroup, as their lead guitarists all went on to enormous success after leaving the group.
Your discussion with BWP reminds me of Buffalo Springfield which launched the careers of Neil Young, Stephen Stills, Richie Furay and Jim Messina. Later efforts included solo efforts as well as Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Poco, Souther-Hillman-Furay Band, Loggins and Messina and more.
