Some great mentions on this thread. A lot of people whose work is worth exploring. But if it's a duplicate thread then maybe it's already been done, though I didn't find it. Of those not mentioned, I'd throw in Elton John and his great lyricist, Bernie Taupin. Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Husen, Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder.
