I use to run 5 or more miles every day. I use to lift weights 3 or 4 times a week. Running barefoot on the ocean beaches of South Jersey wrecked my feet. Pitching to my son and his team through the Little League years wrecked my right shoulder and lifting is history. Now I walk every morning (and love it).

I've put together about 10 routes that start from my Murrells Inlet townhouse. Although my favorite route requires a drive to Huntington Beach State Park (from the parking lot to the end of the stone pier on the bay side is exactly 3 miles one way). Today, since I needed to return something to the Garden City Walmart, I walked (a little over 6 miles round trip).

One major difference between here and Naples Florida is the lack of both shoulders on many of the roads, sidewalks and bike lanes. Walking Naples there are sidewalks and bike lanes on all the road. It is easy to see why there are so many road memorials (crosses and artificial flowers) around here (I think there are 5 or 6 on Tournament alone - one of the roads I take most.......).

I know that putting in sidewalks, bike lanes and even making the shoulders wider would be a big local expense. However it would promote more people walking, running and biking and might even increase visits to many of the local businesses.
