Philadelphia here and can't wait to leave here. Many of my family member's co-workers are retiring in MB and we want to do so also, as soon as we can sell or rent our house. I'd like to be part of a social group of parties who are planning to relo there. Anyone interested or who knows of such a group, please post any info.
I was considering Olympia, Washington, but don't know anyone there and have never been to that part of the country. Read the newspapers from out there recently and I got a sense of bleakness, even downright depression. Today I just got my first issue of the Columbia SC paper The State. It should be a good way to compare SC to Wash, -- gov't, tone of the state in general, etc. since I read the Olympia papers and feel successful with what I learned. Afterwards, I plan to get the MB paper for a while, for more details about the specific area. If anyone wants to know anything about these SC papers, I'm happy to share any info or my opinion. My mom always says the newspaper is a good way to learn about an area.
Haven't yet had a chance to read the recent posts about MB but plan to do that soon.

Reason: Add a point
I have been counting down the days until our hopeful move from MI to Myrtle Beach (between Labor Day 2012-Mid July 2013). My job gets worse, the weather gets worse (it has snowed for the past 4 days!!!), people's attitude's match this. I could go on but enough for now.
Don't know of any group for this, but hopefully it works for both of us.
Moving to myrtle beach area pending job offer need school info please!!!!
I need an honest opinion or 2....or 45. My husband & I need to get off of "Wrong Island" NY asap. We have our parents in the area (Conway) & they dont even want to HEAR about us moving down there until 1 of us lands a job. I understand their fear since that area has the highest unemployment rate in the country, which IS pretty scary. I, however, am in the healthcare field & feel as though I would not have a difficult time landing a job. Am I misguided to feel this way? I have been a medical & dental assistant/receptionist/patient coordinator for almost 20 yrs. I am also a registered Dialysis Technician. My husband is in television so.....yeah, he's pretty much out of luck down there & I told him he'll have to think outside the box for employment, lol. We have 3 small children ages 3,7 & 8...where are the BEST schools???? ANY AND ALL INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
MovingSouthGal..FYI....my in-laws retired years ago to myrtle beach and ABSOLUTELY love it there...in fact, they HATE coming back to Long Island to visit. They have quite the social life & are always busy.
We just listed our house here in NJ. If it sells this year, we'll rent here until Fall of 2012 and then headed to LR area too! We're hoping that giving it a year and a half is enough time to sell it for more than a dollar-lol.
Not full time, at least not yet. We are in the process of purchasing a condo where we plan to spend at least a couple of weeks a year when it's not rented out. We have only visited MB during the months of April and May, so we have no idea what it's like the rest of the year and would never move there full time without having experienced what the crowds, weather, etc. are like during other times of the year. If we go to the condo during the peak season months of July or August, which is something that we have avoided in the past, then we can get a real feel for if we would want to live in a tourist town year round. It sounds good in theory, especially considering the winter that we just had, but the reality is, do we want to have to wait in a huge line every time we go out to dinner? Do we want to sit through three green lights whenever we need to go somewhere in the middle of the day or on a weekend evening? These are all things that need to be explored before we can make an informed decision on whether or not to live in MB full time. To not do this informal "research" would be pretty foolhardy, IMHO.
