Myrtle Beach Crime Map
I am not sure how accurate this is but I found it interesting. It appears MBPD & Horry PD are submitting statistics for incorporation to the site and the incidents appear to be for the previous month (May's incidents are listed). Georgetown Sheriffs Office & Conway City statistics are not shown. The map is divided by zip code.

That is very interesting information baylovers. I wish there was prior months information. I would love to compare Surfside in May of 2011 to Surfside May of 2010. It seems to me the incidents of crime is substantially higher this year than it was last. I am not basing that on any statistic comparisons I have read, just what I see on the tv, newspaper, or online news. I remember when we first moved down here (which was a little less than 2 years ago) we used to get a chuckle out of the news. We came from hearing about all the murders in Baltimore everyday to the highlight of the news being a big story of a man and a horse (I'll avoid elaborating ) .... Not that the horse story was funny , just quite a change from what we were used to ...

Exactly what I thought it would be; almost all the high crime is in the industrial park and on the boulevard. MBPD is REALLY cracking down on crime on the boulevard as they have everything to gain and tons to lose if they don't. The Mayor is already on the hot seat for driving away the Harleys and expanding Black Bike Week.

Kewl, thanks for sharing! Hopefully, that's just a start. It would be nice to see it expand to include the entire Grand Strand as well as some historic data.

Hmmmm..... I'm not Rhodes biggest fan, but I've never heard him being accused of expanding any bike rally. What exactly did he do to expand the Memorial Day Bike Rally?

PD- It's call SELECTIVE ENFORCEMENT. They run hard and strong during the Spring Rally then sit and watch during BBW.
If the Council and City are good at anything at all, they are PROs at being SELECTIVE.

Pawleys, I am a big John Rhodes fan as he practically raised me.
He is the scapegoat for the fact that the Harleys are dwindling and Black Bike Weekend is on the rise. Everyone blames him.
Plus the feds are looking into the illegal campaign contributions he was involved in by being a recipient.

Well, that makes one of us a fan. As far as I'm concerned, Rhodes has sold his soul to the affluent old-f*rt retirees who would prefer to run off every tourist ever considering coming to MB. He's tried hard to turn MB into something it's not and has never been. In the course of doing that, he's well on the way to destroying a pretty neat place. 'Course, that's just my opinion...

Actually, yes, he has sold his soul to the 2000 or so affluent retired yankee voters in Grand Dunes, Myrtle Heights, The Dunes Club, etc.
These two or three year retirees don't realize that without all of this tourism, we would not have the best roads in the state, the amount of hospitals and quality doctors we have for a very tiny year round population, the amenities, low property taxes etc.
Tourism has paid for my homes, my cars, put braces on my children, put four kids through FOUR four year universities, etc.
I can remember when NOTHING at all was open from Labor Day through Memorial Day except the Winn Dixie on 29th and The Pig on 16th.
You start alienating the tourists, they all start going away.
These stupid, stupid, stupid people are basically holding John hostage.
There are 32,000 people in the city limits of Myrtle Beach. The last Mayoral election less than 10% came out to vote.
That's right. 3,000 people decided the fate of Horry and Georgetown County.
John is at the mercy of the voters of Myrtle Beach BUT, why didn't more get out and vote?
I canvassed and participated in drives and did everything I could possibly do as a resident of Myrtle Beach.
Does John want to turn Myrtle Beach into something it isn't? Hell no. John's an Horry County redneck like the rest of us. He just knows which side of his bread is buttered.
Myrtle Beach has been and will always be a blue collar resort. The people moving here from elsewhere are the ones trying to change it.
Am I letting John off the hook? No, I think he could have been much more vocal in his opposition because I know John has nothing against the bikers. Don't forget John was a very successful restauranteur here for 25 years.
