Default Gonna move to Myrtle Beach area --- HELP!

My wife and I have just about had enough of Florida. The temps and the humidity here are brutal. Day in an day out for 5 months every year from May through September there is no let up as the temps hit 90-95 every day and 72-76 every night, with no respite (and we're on the ocean, around Daytona Beach).

(Good old air conditioner - knock, knock.)

The weather here is Great for those who love it, but we came down from the north over 3 years ago and just can't even go outside in the sun without sweating to death, let alone do any work.

Anyway, does anyone know of any "Reasonably Priced" communities (including one with all manufactured homes) that we can buy a house in?
We've been retired for 4 years now, but ain't dead yet!
We like different scenery, taking rides and quiet solitude.

What about something in Little River or near where US 17 runs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Biff

I don't think you will find the climate in Myrtle Beach to be that much different from where you are now. Myrtle Beach really doesn't fit your description of quiet solitude either. It's a year round tourist destination. Have you ever been there in the summertime? The traffic get's pretty bad, especially around holidays. Then there are the biker weeks to think about. Have you considered the western part of SC or NC?

scjj,

We're looking western NC as well.
According to the weather guru's the summers in Myrtle Beach ave. 90 for a high and 70 for a low, (that's around 4 degrees cooler) and this only lasts for 2 1/2 (instead of 5) months a year and a sea breeze. Then winter lows are in the 30's with no snow. Ahhhhhh! 350 miles as the crow flies!
I am looking for a place close to the action but secluded as well.
Do you know of any reasonable communites there within 8 miles or so of the ocean?

Biff

If you want to stay out of the Myrtle Beach rat race then look into Pawley's Island and Murrell's Inlet which are south of Myrtle Beach. To the north, Little River, Calabash, Southport, possibly even Wilmington or Brunswick county outside of Wilmington.

I just got back from my third trip to the Myrtle Beach area looking for houses and as you said areas with manufactured are ok? If so, check out Conway, Longs and Loris. The houses are inexpensive, taxes are low and they are within 30 minutes to an hour from the action and beach. Conway especially is being built up and you can find a house under $200,000 easily or maufactured under $150,000. Taxes are around $600 to $1200 obviously depending on what you buy. Good luck!
