What is the difference between Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach?
Hello,
What is the difference between Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach? Do you prefer one to the other? What area do you think is the safest? If you could buy a condo in one of those areas, which one would it be? If you know of the best condo or area which would it be? We have no children if that helps any and we are retired.
Thanks

I'm a newbie and I live in Carolina Forest Myrtle Beach it's very nice and close to everything but I think N Myrtle Beach is nicer and probably lower crime. I like this Barefoot Golf Villas..... Welcome to Barefoot Living Resort & Golf

I have always preferred North Myrtle simply because of its more "upscale" feel as opposed to Myrtle Beach proper. I have felt it is less hectic and more relaxed and "safe" overall. Since I do not live there and never plan to, I am not the authority on the actual differences - if any - that may exist between the two places.

Traffic isn't nearly as bad in North Myrtle Beach and the beaches are wider in that area.

Both areas are nice. I live in MB but like to visit NMB and the Little River area from time to time.

I use to live in North Myrtle Beach, went to high school there and plan on moving back this summer. I love it!!! I would definately recommend it, its not as populated as myrtle beach. Has a little bit of a slower pace, but not that far of a drive to be in the middle of it all. Just make sure to stay out of Atlantic Beach!!!

I'm not sure how often you've had to drive around NMB in the last two years, but traffic is just as bad in NMB as it is in MB. I drove to, in and around NMB, Little River and Longs, for two years... Maybe the main street connector will help once it's completed, but who knows how long that project will actually wind up taking...

If *I* were you, I'd spend a week or two looking around both areas. There seems to be more new constrution going on in NMB as far as condo's go. MB is throwing up condo-tels, but I'm not sure that I'd want to live in a condo-tel type deal where there are so many new faces all summer long. I'd prefer a place that offered a Master Deed that prohibited weekly rentals... if it were me.. which it isn't.. so it really doesn't matter what I think..
At any rate, good luck in your searching!

I've only been here a few months and I was thinking the same thing. I don't think the traffic is any better in N Myrtle at all.

FYI, one of the top stories in the Sun News today was how the R/E auction flopped because of the market corrections (condos included):
