Default The Myrtle Beach Resort Condos for sale

It's been a few years since I have been to MB but I find myself semi-retired and seriously considering buying a condo in MB to use for a full-time residence. I don't play golf but enjoy pier fishing.
After reading the horror stories on the crime rate in MB it almost changed my mind... I have seen several condos at the Landmark , Sea Mist, etc and a lot of them were bargain priced but the recent reviews and the crime stats on Ocean Blvd made rethink my desired location
Can anyone tell me about The Myrtle Beach Resort ? ... it's tucked in between Lakewood and Ocean Lakes campgrounds on South Kings Hwy ... close enough to the state park for pier fishing.
I need a first level unit or a building with an elevator. I really like what i see in their Fives Seasons complex which is not directly on the ocean front but has good amenties
Anyone have any info on The Myrtle Beach Resort such as crime , traffic , hoa fees etc

thanks in advance

Bob

I can offer some advice.

There are 4 structures on that property. The 5 seasons, A building, B building, and the Renaissance tower.

Here's what I know:

The 5 Seasons: 3 story structure with 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom units. No elevator, so in your case, you'll want to purchase on the ground floor. The HOA dues are higher than all 4 separate structures. (All 4 structures have their own board and separate HOA dues) There is also a "Master HOA" that incorporates all 4 structures but that's included in your HOA for whatever structure you belong to. I know of a nice 2 bedroom unit (ground floor) for sale. Oh, and I'm NOT a real estate agent......my buddy owns that unit. The 5 seasons has an indoor/outdoor pool, tennis courts, jacuzzi, and a wet and dry sauna. It's about a city block away from the ocean.

A Building: An ocean front, 5 story, 255 unit equipped building with 3 elevators. Built in the early to mid 80's. Maintenance of this structure has vastly improved and it is cheaper to buy into this building than the sister B building. The north side of the building faces the Lakewood campground. The south side of the building faces the parking lot between the A and B building. The only advantage I can see of getting a unit that faces the parking lot is having the sun in the winter. Other than that, I find the parking lot to be very "echo'y" and you give up a lot of privacy because you're facing the sister B building. People looking at other people on their decks ! So, if I had to choose a 2 bedroom unit in the A building, it would be on the North side facing the much more private Lakewood campground. The units that are odd numbered, face the north. Even numbered units face the South. Oh, there's a "Laundromat" on every floor. The 3rd floor has a "Change" machine. Building has 4 open "sun decks" located on the 5th floor.

B Building: An ocean front, 5 story, 255 unit equipped building with 3 elevators. Sandwiched between the A building and Renaissance tower. Sister building to the A building. Built in the late 80's. Has an indoor pool, jacuzzi, and small exercise room. North side faces the parking lot and the A building. South side faces yet another parking lot and the Renaissance tower. Has a Laundromat on every floor. The B Building gets a lot of hype (from winter rentals) because of the indoor pool located at the west end of the building. The complaints of the pool are the echo (noisy in the summer months) and the constant smell of chlorine. There are 4 "sun decks" located on the 5th floor.

Renaissance tower: A 22 story ocean front structure. There are no units located on the 1st floor. The 1st floor has a big laundromat, a small exercise room, jacuzzi, wet and dry sauna, game room, convenience store, and small luncheon. This structure boasts the "best views" but, at a price. The building has only 3 elevators. There's only 1 laundromat and it's located on the first floor so...if you have a unit on the 22nd floor, you will have to go to the ground floor to do your laundry. The wait times for an elevator in the heat of the summer can be aggravating to say the least ! If you're into an awesome view, and don't mind the elevator wait times, then this structure may work for you. Oh, one thing to note. Parking for this unit is the worse of all of them. You'll have to do some walking to get to your car.

To sum it up....no matter what structure/unit you purchase, you'll have access to ALL the amenities. So, if you purchase in the 5 seasons, you can swim at the indoor pool in the B building. Speaking of amenities, this is how it's laid out.
Tennis courts located at the 5 seasons.
Basketball courts located between the 5 seasons, A building, and B building.
Indoor pool located at the 5 seasons and B building
Small water park and snack bar located at the west end of the A building
Large outdoor pool and snack bar located at the east end of the A building
Ocean front bar and volley ball court located at the east end of the B building
Outdoor pool located at the South side of the Renaissance tower

With all of that said, all structures have a lot to offer, depending upon what you're looking for.
My .02.......if I were in your shoes, I'd look at the A building first (best deals), followed by the B building, 5 seasons, then Renaissance tower.
Also note, this 33 acre resort is gated and has 24hr security. The security personnel are top notch. They take their job serious and it shows. Same as the maintenance and grounds crew. Those guys are a hard working and friendly bunch.

If you want additional info, simply PM me. I'd be glad to offer advice.

- Hope this helps

[Sweet Old Bob], I have yet another place you may be interested in. It's not in Myrtle Beach, it's 50 minutes north up the coast in NC. Again, I'm NOT a real estate agent. I'm just a fella like you. I did a ton of research (visiting forums, looking at tax maps, speaking to real estate agents.....etc) If you're interested, drop me a PM and I'll get in touch with you.
