You might check out the golf villas at Pawley's Plantation. Just learned that they are available to the public, not time share as we'd thought. Have no idea if long-term rental is an option, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Have you checked Craigslist? Apartments or Rooms -- lots of cheap places.

Also AirBNB has monthly rates.

Finally you might try your luck at CouchSurfing, though the Myrtle Beach area seems to not be very popular here.
