Greetings, My wife and I finally made the move to MB area. I did most of the online research and really used this forum a lot. Thank you to those that post useful information. There seems to be quite a few of really good ambassadors for the area on this forum. (There also seems to be a few curmudgeons, but that is the way of life and the internet).
Our fist few positive items:
1)Time Warner installed internet in less than 24 hours after we called them.
2) Palm trees
3) A lot of choices in food markets
4) Furniture people delivered and assembled all items we bought in less than 24 hours
5) Most small business people are really friendly and seem to actually care about how you are doing today (maybe they are just real good at faking).
6) Neat Ferris Wheel
7) Rent is low for the amenities at our complex.
8) Everyone at our complex has a dog, so lots of doggy friends for our old Weimaraner.
9) Good Verizon service
10) Really good quality of life for people that have decent jobs.
11) Beer is a bit cheaper than in MI/OH
12) I liked the few restaurants we tried so far
13) Opened new account at BB&T, very nice people, professional, and helped us with a few of our area questions.
14) Outlet stores for everything. . . well almost I cannot find the ABC liquors outlet store.
A few negatives (but I knew these before we came):
1)Flying VW sized cockroaches that have been marketed to Yankees as "palmetto bugs"
2) 501 (and it is not even high season right now)
3) Milk is expensive compared to Michigan (almost $2 more a gallon).
4)Credit Card Company keeps turning off my CC because of fraud alerts (they told me "someone in Myrtle Beach just bought furniture on your CC. . . I was like yah . . . that was me.)
5) Cats cannot seem to settle down, they are a bit traumatized (this would have happened anywhere).
All in All a nice area so far. If my wife likes her new job, we most likely will set up permanently here.
Good to hear more positives than negatives. I can't wait to leave MI and join ya. Not sure what part of MI you're from, but I notice if you have a Kroger card milk is only $1 more per gallon than my area. Still kinda sucks, and not being a beer drinker that doesn't help me but I did notice things like bananas and other stuff I do eat are less in MB than here. Good luck in your new home.
Oh, and you got out just in time as we had our first snow, yes snow, yesterday. Didn't stick, but snow falling on Oct. 10 makes me ill. Heck, it makes me ill any day of the year.
Have to say I am quite jealous! And happy to hear that it is " so far so good". We are trying to make the move there from Maryland. Our daughter went to Coastal Carolina and never came back , and after many many visits to here we want to do the same. Can't be soon enough! ( Especially since they are calling for Snowmageddon again this year!)

Food Prices: I do the food shopping. In NJ it is Shoprite and Costco. In SC and FL it is Walmart and Costco. I do miss Shoprite in the other states. However I really do not notice an overall difference in food prices. My feeling is that it evens/averages out..........
Welcome, glad you're settling in and happy so far. I do almost all my food shopping at Kroeger, spend $100 and get 10 cents off a gallon. Even with the card, you can always get 3 cents off. The friendliness is real, and contagious. When I go back home to NY to visit and say hello to everyone I pass, people look at me like I have 2 heads! That's Yankees for ya!!
