From what I've heard Burgess is the place to buy narcotics. I have some female acquaintances who have been harassed when they've stopped at the local convenience store etc., too. Today's paper reported a methlab was raided in the Socastee area yesterday as well. However, ther are drug problems in most places of the country. That is the importance of doing your research before you choose a place to live.
As for Horry vs. Georgetown... apples and oranges for the most part. If you are considering Murrells Inlet I can really only comment on the Gtown side since it is in the same school district as mine & I have a few friends living up there. There are some really great communities such as
Wachesaw Plantation and some areas that you may want to stay away from. Same thing down in Pawleys Island area.
If you want a really nice area but certainly not cheap, look into the communities in Litchfield. They are really beautiful with some having water access on the Intracoastal Waterway.
