LOL

Last vacation in Myrtle Beach we stayed at the Caribbean Resort. A young kid got nailed by a jellyfish badly.

My husband grabbed the kid out of the water while Mommy and Daddy lay on the beach asleep like idiots.

He ran him to the lifeguard who is suppose to be trained to take care of this. All we got was, well you can take the kid to the hospital. My daughter called 911 to get an ambulance because the kid was freaking out.

I ran to the room and grabbed some steak seasoning to put on the kid while the parents finally decided to help their own kid out.

I packed it on the kids leg and it removed most of the pain.

The idiot lifeguard still the entire time stood shaking his head and not knowing what to do.

The ambulance EMT told us the lifeguard has items to stop the pain why did he not use it?

I have spend my lifetime vacationing in MB and one thing I can honestly say it most of them dont move from the chair other then at the end of the day to pick up chairs etc.

We have been at MB for 9 days and cannot believe the lack of life guards. This has been the worst we have seen in the 33 years that we have been vacationing here. We walked from the 28th St north to the Pavilion area all but two days. Until today there were no more than 3 lifeguards in 20 blocks. Stands were there but no flags or lifeguards. Yesterday we walked back up to pavilion area and there were only 2 lifeguards. I asked a lifeguard near the Pavilion about the lack of lifeguards and after a few minutes of trying to understand English he said they were all on lunch break. BULL This Life guard can only speak Polish. There were plenty of golf carts riding fast down the back of umbrellas but they only look like they are monitoring the umbrellas and chair rentals. One blond haired young man was speeding thru beach areas and doing donuts. We saw that twice almost hit two kids walking to beach. Who is in charge? what a shame Twice we saw sharks yesterday but no lifeguards to get people out of water as in past.

Unfortunately, many of the young people who were acting as lifeguards earlier in the season are now in school here in SC...makes for a shortage of personnel.
And if you saw sharks in the water, did YOU make an announcement to that fact in order to alert others?? Just asking, as unfortunately too often people don't take the initiative to be proactive in such a situation- and that is a mistake because even the best lifeguards can't see everything or hear everything.
If you see that there is a problem on the beach, and no lifeguard is nearby or available, there ARE police who can and will attend to issues such as reckless golf cart operation or medical emergencies. If you suspect a problem and don't know how to proceed, go to the nearest hotel/resort property and report the issue and ask for assistance- if you have concerns/complaints about lifeguards, talk to the manager of hotel where they are stationed- it could be a personnel problem they can address, if its a city-paid employee that isn't properly doing their job, the hotel management will have a vested interest in reporting to problem to the proper authority.
