I was just talking about here - yes, it's July so it is "hot" everywhere! But, I'm not everywhere - I'm here. For now.
Those stores you're talking about are not in Socastee. We live off of 707, our children go to St James. That's weird that your arthritis likes the heat - arthritis is inflammation of the joints and heat just inflames it. My Husband has arthritis. He just had his second hip replacement (first one was in 2006 up North, outside of DC) at Waccamaw. The first total hip replacement to go home the same day. He and his Doctor were in the Coastal Observer. He still has problems with his hands, wrists. Did you know that the same ingredients in Celebrex is found in Ginger Root? It's a natural anti-inflammatory as is Garlic. They say to use heat in the morning to waken your bones and get ready for the day; but, for pain, use cold. Check-out the National Arthritis Foundation website, too. Don't forget, studies show, people live longer in cooler climates:-)
My mail goes through Myrtle Beach, but the land I live on is Socastee. Every handyman or delivery man who comes here lets me know that. Also, per my plot plan. We are nice and close to all the stores I mentioned. It will take me less then two minutes to get to most. Not sure of what each stores plot plan states. I do know that Walmart on 544 goes under Surfside Beach, although that is further then the stores I gave as samples. I find it a fantastic location. The best I have ever had.
Besides having arthritis I also have a pain/nerve problem. Warmth feels good on both. Natural sounds good but I am allergic to Garlic and when I have had it mistakenly on something, I know it real soon.
Cold, hurts... I lived in a cold area for a long, long, time. It was very painful, the cold would get to my bones.
Warmth feels great. I do much better here then the North. I love seeing snow, walking in snow too. I just can't live in it.
Cold was never good for my hubby's heart. Its not good in many ways for a heart patient.
Putting the both together landed us in the south. It was a soft landing, and we're doing fine.

What about Monaco? The people of Monaco enjoy the longest life expectancy of anywhere on earth. It has a Mediterranean climate which is a type of subtropical with lots of sunshine (300+ days a year).
But, correlation does not imply causation. Lifestyle, diet, genetics are likely more significant factors than climate. Although it is generally accepted that folks in mild climates are more active than folks cooped up during long, cold gray winters. If they aren't more active, it isn't because the opportunites aren't there.

Arthritis is one of the many, many reasons I moved to SC (though I'm not in MB) over a decade ago. I can't function in cold. Below about 45-50 degrees my hands are about as dexterous as a dog's paws and, of course, pain everywhere.
Applying ice packs to arthritic joints can numb pain and reduce inflammation for some people but I don't think cold weather has quite the same effect! At any rate, ice packs or any kind of cold is not for me. What works best varies individually, I suppose, and also the type of arthritis.
I am heat intolerant so I hibernate as much as possible for anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks in the summer. I consider it a very small price to pay for 10 months of pleasant weather.
Generally, $70K should provide you with a comfortable life. Of course, it depends on your life style and where you want to live. If you want to live right on the beach, probably not...if you want to live within a few miles, absolutely.
My wife and I are hoping to retire to the Murrells Inlet area....unfortunately we are about 8 years away from that unless something wild happens like winning the lottery.
warmweatherfan2...the time will go by quickly and you'll be at Murrells...I decided almost 8 years ago that Myrtle Beach was where I wanted to retire (I'm a SC girl stuck in Texas for now) and my dream will come true in about a year! Of course, I still count on winning the lottery so I can buy an oceanfront mansion!
