Default Electric in Horry County

Anyone who can give me an idea what your monthly electric bill is for a home of about 1500 sq ft in Horry County?

This is somewhat of a wide open question..

How many people? How old is the house?

For starters, my house is about that size, my AVG bill during the summer is $130 - during the fall/winter (LOL) it runs about $75. I REFUSE to sweat or shiver in my house. I also leave numerous appliances on a lot (computers, 2nd fridge, TV's etc). Two of us in the house most of the time.

Home was built in '95.

Hope this helps you out..

PS- Keep in mind that your heating costs during the winter months here will be SIGNIFICANTLY lower than they are in NJ.

What company services Horry County? I have Santee Cooper in Georgtown and I have two units heating/cooling about 3800 sqft. I average $137 a month. Is there that much difference between the utilities?

Santee Cooper and Horry Electric service the County. I've had both and have nothing bad to say about either.

Thanks for the info. I'm glad you emphasized the "sweat and shiver" thing. I need Miami when cold and Alaska when hot.
Any other further info you could provide would be great.
I have a 2001 Taurus and a 1997 Ford F150 truck. Any guess as to what that will run for taxes and/or insurance?
I try to figure property taxes (leave that to the wife) but math was never a strong point. We are looking at a home that is 10yrs old ($150000) and one that is 30yrs old ($135000). The property is about the same size 1/2+ in Loris. Any guess at to what the cost would be. A guess is fine.
We have been trying to sell our home here but the market is just killing us. We have been thinking of selling it as low as possible which would leave us with a LOT less than we originally planned for.
Thanks again and hope you can give a little more so we have an idea what we will be spending.

NJ:
For the real property taxes (your vehicles) - I pay a couple hundred a year for my cars, one is an 02 model, the other an 03. Get in touch with the County Assessors office Assessor (broken link) and they should be able to give you a very good estimate of what your taxes for each vehicle would be.

Regarding the taxes on your home... With the tax law changes for 2007, I'm not really sure what you'd have for an annual tax rate. I know that MY taxes were cut in half. I would *imagine* that your taxes, on a home in the price range quoted, would run in the $1000-1200/year range, if that much. Depending on your age, you may qualify for additional discounts as well. You will want to inquire about the homestead qualification, which will ensure that your home is taxed at the 4% rate, as opposed to the 6% rate given to vacation/second home (non primary) residences.

Again, the tax assessors office will be able to give you a good estimate on what the taxes will be on the given property. As a matter of fact, assuming you know the current owners name, you can find the prior years tax assessment on the Horry County website at HCG.gateway

To be honest, I'm not sure if Loris is serviced by Horry Electric or Santee Cooper. I *think* it's Horry Electric...

Hope this helps... Also, these are questions your realtor/agent will be able to answer as well..
