I read in the paper that there is discussion to re-zone the lots around Pawleys Wine and Spirits to accommodate more retail and two large "fast food" businesses. Is anybody else as disappointed as we are to see this focus on more junk along our roads?
We moved here because it is NOT like Garden City and northward, but its starting to feel like the crud is creeping this way....
I would not be against pizza restaurants. The pizza sector is dominated by many delivery/carryout chains. Whoever opens a dine in pizza restaurant would be successful and profitable.

Fortunately, Pawleys is blessed with several small family-owned restaurants serving the real deal - DeRoma's, Landolfi's, Pasteria 811, etc. The last thing we need is another fast food joint serving circular cardboard covered with processed, pre-packaged toppings that you order from an overhead neon sign. These places draw the tourists who are scared to eat from anywhere other than a chain joint that they have in their own home town.

They may be the best the area has to offer but calling them the "real deal" is a serious stretch. Tourists from the Northeast, for example, are not going to be searching pizza as a primary dining option.

tguru...I totally understand what you are saying, but we are quickly learning - having only been here about 5 weeks - that if we want to eat out, we avoid the "fish camps" and other such restaurants. Eating pizza, great Calabash Deli gyros and subs, etc. is a perfect way to eat in peace and quiet! Don't get me wrong, they are busy, but at least we don't have to stand for an hour waiting to get a table!
