If you like or want to go to the beach often I would not suggest Conway. We vacationed in Myrtle Beach every year for 30 years and lived in Myrtle Beach for 2 years so getting to the beach from Conway can be very time consuming.

I would look into Little River, NMB, Murrells Inlet or Pawleys if you go to the beach often.

Good luck!

Yes, we can understand the 'seasoin rush' as we live about 50 miles from the shore here and weekends and holidays are brutal if you want to go to the beach. I'm looking at some of the same places you recommend.

Are you still thinking of buying before you move, or have you decided on renting (you mentioned that a while back) for a while prior to deciding on the exact location? If it's possible for you to rent first, I highly recommend doing that so you can live here for a while, learn your way around and find out what area you really love.

Obviously, everyone has their own likes and dislikes about certain parts of the Myrtle Beach area. I prefer the south end and really love living where I do. Even though Island Green is not too far from where I live, I don't know anything about that area (hence my joke reply to your other post.)

You said that you've been working with several realtors - have they been helpful as far as recommendations about particular areas? I know that there are certain things they aren't permitted to discuss, etc.

If it's possible for you to rent for a few months, I suggest doing so in the off season because you can get really good monthly rates on furnished ocean front condos during that time of year.

Thank you vrexy. We really haven't decided how we're going to approach scouting the area. I am thinking about taking a week around Easter vacation (I'm a school bus driver) and going down that way just to get a feel of the area and some familiarity.
We will be down again during the Summer for a week or two and will hopefully make some more concrete decisions on how to
proceed from there. She is retiring either this year or next and I can drive a school bus anywhere so we intend to move during that time frame.
We're thinking we can either rent or even buy an inexpensive place to crash and use as a center of operations for our search.

Regards,
Len

Default Check out Beverly Homes or Wade Jurney Homes

If your thinking of located to the Conway area you need to check out BeverlyHomesSC.com, I think you'll be impressed. Tell them Atlantic Bay sent ya.

I also recommend checking out Wade Jurney Homes. Both great options for a new home.

Hope this helps.

Because we'll be on a fixed income we are looking for something manageable from a house payment perspective. Your house prices are very reasonable from what we've seen.

The issue is like Mozer stated, the traffic getting to the beach during the summer will be very heavy from Conway to the beach.

Although Conway seems to have better housing prices you can still find some nice homes in many parts of the Myrtle Beach area that are also comparable.

I agree, looking at the housing so many options with decent affordable housing. The Farm ( Carolina Forest ) is building a new section with new homes in the 180-200k range which is very good. The Farm has access to International which takes you away from the 501 traffic and to the beach much quicker.

Thanks Mark! We would like to be closer to the beach than Conway. We will be looking, as I said in the 15 - 20 mile radius and relying a lot on feedback from our realtors and folks on this forum.
We have started to gravitate toward the 55+ communities and for the first time are looking at the possibility of a manufactured home. We have friends up here that have gone that route and are very happy with that type of home.
And the prices are much more reasonable for us at this stage of our lives.

Regards,
Len

I totally agree. Rent for a year.

Leave all options open Len. They are building some very nice homes in a decent price range around thew MB area. We went into a manufactured high end home of our friends and it was super nice.

Taking a trip to MB for a few days and seeing these areas in person I believe is a must.

I can tell you we have friends who live in a manufactured home up on stilts in the Murrells Inlet area and love it.

If you can buy new, not used.

Good luck.
