Hurricane's do funny things sometimes at the last minute so we're going to take a short vacation somewhere over toward Atlanta....or, at least we hope it's a short one...LOL.
Figures that we have our annual fall trip to MB planned for next week! We will monitor the situation and stay north if it looks like a washout (or wind-out).
We can't decide what to do. If it looks like it's going to hit here, we'll head inland and go stay with my uncle for a day or two. Debating whether or not to go ahead and have our plywood put up over our windows. I don't want to late for the last minute to get things ready, but I hate doing it too early and having it turn out that it wasn't necessary. We live really close to the ocean and are only about 19 ft. above sea level. If there's storm surg of 20 ft. - I guess we'll have some major issues. They've mentioned that as a possibility.

We also have a trip planned for the 23rd of September; visiting friends in Southport, then 4-5 days in Myrtle Beach.
Wondering who we can call or contact for reliable information as to the conditions: trees down, power outages, flooded roads, that would be up front with us. I doubt we'll visit our friends in Southport, but are hoping and praying everything is OK for them. They are friends we just love.
Who are you contacting for information? I doubt the hotels would be likely to be 100% honest as to the conditions.
We're connecting through Charlotte Airport and I understand that area is supposed to get a ton of rain and wind.
Hoping everyone stays safe as this storm does it dirty work on the coastline.

I stressed about Hurricane Irma last year as it made landfall very near our Naples Condo. Lucky for us (we were in NJ at the time) it did not cause any damage to our unit. However there was major damage to the community resulting in $3400 in an HOA assessment. But, could have been much worse.
Anyway, for some reason, I am not stressed about Florence even though it will likely hit close to our Murrells Inlet townhouse. Matthew did not cause any damage or flooding (in our community) and neither did the massive rain storm (17+ inches) that occurred before. Therefore I am somewhat optimistic.
I kind of wish I were there to mount the plywood panels over the windows and sliders but, then again, I am glad I won't be present to deal with all the surrounding damage and outages (again we are in NJ). But I know that with all my properties within 4 miles of the ocean or gulf, eventually we will get really wacked.
