we spent a few nights in early March at the 'Hilton' on Hilton Head island. Had a King suite, ocean front/view. Huge private balcony with entrances to it from both the master bedroom as well as the living room, and a great view of the beach/ocean ( we were on the 3rd floor--I wouldn't go lower in case trees could block some of the view ). They had a special where a nice breakfast was included. Comfortable large room to stay in, nice pools, etc. We plan on going back again sometime, to same place.
If you go, just down the road is a great little pizzaria we 'found' ( Guisseppe's ). Plenty of other nice local spots to eat/relax at.
Anyhow that was our first time to SC/Hilton Head; and it won't be our last.
** I don't know how packed it gets though in late May, once schools are out. That may be a consideration for you....

Thats everyone. Ended up booking rooms at three locations for 6 nights. Hitting up Isle of Palms then Folly Beach then Hilton Head. 2 nights at each location. I should get a good taste of what you folks offer down there. Thanks again for the insights they were helpfull.

Pelican Inn - another B & B on Pawleys, nice historic building along the ocean. I just read that the meals are provided by Orobosa's restaurant, which has a terrific menu.
OK, scratch that comment about Orobasa's... I just found out that the owner fled the country to Nigeria last week. He apparently owed a bundle in taxes, back rent and to suppliers and he fled to his native land. He left the staff high & dry. Anyone want to open a restaurant in Pawleys? I know a spot you may get cheap!

Hi Everyone, I wanted to update "y'all" on a northerner’s perspective on my little trip to SC's low country. WE HAD A BLAST and can't wait till we get the opportunity to go again. My wife and I drove down from Connecticut Wednesday, May 28 and stayed 6 nights to June 3rd. We broke up the trip by spending 2 nights at Isle of Palms at The Palms, then 2 nights at Folly Beach at the Holiday Inn and the last 2 nights at the Westin in Hilton Head.

Each location offered a unique experience: Isle of Palms gave me the impression that this would be a nice quiet family beach experience. Mt Pleasant offered many eating options as well. Folly Beach would be an ideal location if we came again with other couples and friends. It seemed that there was more of nightlife there. The restaurants & bars offered many opportunities for my wife and I to enjoy ourselves at night. Hilton Head offers that resort or getaway type of experience. It is also family friendly so if we were to bring the kids we would enjoy ourselves as well. I can’t say which the best place was because each was somewhat different.

The overall experience was great. We had a wonderful time and everyone was very friendly. I am not going into the north vs south thing. My wife and I grew up in a fairly small working class town and don’t have prejudices or views that would be viewed negatively anywhere. In one experience on the drive down, not sure if NC or SC but it was a BBQ location where we had lunch and the counter staff couldn’t believe how nice we were.

Anyway just wanted to update everyone on what a great time we had and can’t wait to head down again in the fall sometime.

Regards, George
