Myrtle Beach- Only sun and fun ???
Hello,
We are a family from Germany and we think about spending a few days in Myrtle Beach, before we visit our relatives in Kentucky.
My husband and my daughter like the things we found out about Myrtle Beach. The beach, the entertainment, shops and the Amusenment-parks.....
But i like to have somethin historical or worth seeing, so that`s why i would like another location, like Nashville or Savannah more.
Maybe you can give us more information....

Drive 2 hours south of Myrtle Beach and visit Charleston. It's got lots of history.
On the way to Charleston, stop at the Brookgreen Gardens. I've never been, so I am not sure it's worth the 12.00 each to get in.

Brookgreen Gardens is beautiful old plantation that was bought by the Huntingtons and transformed into an array of sculpture gardens. They have a few tours that include a river tour showing how they built the rice plantations. There is also a nice wildlife section. Brookgreen Gardens -- Ever Changing. Simply Amazing.
The City of Georgetown has the Rice Museum and a historic district.

You can probably make Charleston in less than two hours. Just north of the city is Patriot's Point. Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum - Charleston Harbor, SC
But Charleston's downtown is my favorite... there is so much history that it would take you a week to get the real feel for it. Fort Sumter, The Battery etc.
Enjoy!

Brookgreen Gardens is a national historic landmark and is world class as an outdoor art gallery, but it also deals with the history of the plantation economy based on slavery. Check their website. Don't miss the movie at the visitors center. Try to take one of the many tours with a guide, some of which are free.
The tickets are good for seven days.
Georgetown is about 15 miles further south and is also an old historic city.. Check out its website and again a tram tour is recommended here.

Bluegrass, if you are looking for something off the busy Myrtle Beach path and somewhere in between MB & Charleston check out rentals in Litchfield/Pawleys Island. This area still has much of the natural beauty of the Low Country that has been squeezed out of Myrtle Beach.
Good luck & let me know if you have any questions.

Agreed that you could surely visit Myrtle Beach and head down to Charleston for a day or two. Charleston in full of history that I'm sure you'd enjoy taking in.
Good luck in whatever you decide! Hope you enjoy your trip to the US!
