Finally someone has put this in the forum...

Hmmm.. I read through all these postings here and on the myrtle beach site and it seems to be some are for the rallies and others are against them.. I would just like to know how the residents of this area whom had their taxes raised feel specially with high gas prices and now they have to pay higher taxes.. is it worth all the hoopla and turmoil?.. is that what you really wanted was your taxes raised to get rid of the bikers. I mean really the spring rally has been going on for YEARS..what 60 years or so.. shoot by now people should be use to it.. and all these newcomers in this area knew about it before they moved there.. so why is everyone whinning about it.

It states on mbbw website...(Myrtle Beach Bike Week has NOT Been Canceled and will NOT be Canceled
We are looking forward to 2009 and the years to come.)

I have been coming down to the Harley rally/and the beach since I was a little girl and still come down (my husband and I) every year with my kids (and we both have bikes). We will keep coming down as long as the rallies are still going!
The one thing I have yet to understand is....... Yes some bikers get out of hand, but what about all these young college kids/high school kids that get out of hand and this goes on alllll summer. I guess that is ok with everyone down there because everyone discriminates against bikers right?? We was down for Spring Rally this year and had to go back down the next weekend during the "black bike week" (only because we bought a new camper and decided to stay for the weekend) and man I have never been so disgusted in my life.. I couldn't believe how the Police handles them compared to Harley week.. it was terrible the black bikers would drive down the middle between cars almost took my hubbys mirror off his truck, they would cut you off like they owned the road and you were in their way and cops didn't do anything.. they just let them drive however they wanted and do whatever they wanted..hell they were walking down 17 in the middle of the road and shoot during harley week if one steps out of line like that they are arrested or ticketed right away ..I ask myself how is this fair.. what because they are black and special people,.. I think NOT!!! and OMG some of the girls down there dressed like hookers on streets of New York.. I'd never seen shorts go up the ass that far.. But hey the NAACP says they do no wrong.. HA that is the funniest thing I'd ever heard!

From reading the message boards in MB the last 2 months, locals say some of the worst problems from BikeFest are not from the bikers themselves, it's from the kids in cars who come for a gigantic out-of-control street party. Think Atlanta's 'Freaknik' with today's gangsta attitude and weapons. Corey Brooks was at a friend's house on Ocean Blvd when a car with 3 young hoods parked in their drive. When they were told it was private property, but they could park there for (I think it was) $20, an argument ensued. One of the 3 pulled out a gun the 16-yr-old just 'happened' to have and shot Corey in the back. He died at the scene. All 3 were local kids coming down for the party on Ocean Blvd.

The more and more I hear and read about this, the more I get disgusted. Like I have said before; our tax money could be better spent in other areas than this. We need bigger schools to help with the over crowding. We need better buses for the children. Salaries need to be raised for the teachers and the men and women in law enforcement. Etc, Etc.

Default This could get ugly......

Here is the most recent article on ending the Biker Fest.. The most notable quote is that the as far as the City is concerned the festivals are over. So, what happens if several thousand bikers show up for either festival??? Will they get a chilly response from law enforcement? Many may not be a part of an organized club so it may take some time for the word to get out that they are "over". The last thing I think anyone would want is a confrontation with law enforcement at either festival to give SC a bad rep..... I guess we will see.

Seeing that the City of MB doesn't actually 'sponsor' either of the Rallies, what difference what they have to say regarding whether or not they are held or not? Are they going to convince hoteliers and restaurants not to take the millions of dollars that flow into their cash registers during the month?

PLEASE...

The City Council needs to REALLY rethink what they are doing to the tourism trend on a long term basis with this knee jerk reaction. Notice in this article that the studies show that the rallies essentially pay for themselves in vendor permits?
